On TCM today.  If you're a Robert Mitchum fan this movie is a must see.  Also the only movie directed by the great Charles Laughton, unfortunately.

Fabulous Mitchum, so scary. Real change of pace for

him. Also great in original Cape Fear. Very underrated

actor.

Watching it now. Missed the beginning. One of the best movies ever made. If you look it up you will realize why.

Re: Night of the Hunter

[ Edited ]

Robert Mitchum   role left an indellible mark . The hand tattoos of Good and Evil .When he calls out to  Pearl to get her to tell where the money was hide. ( in her Doll)

Shelly Winters  role was also woth an academy award as the meek confused misguided  woman .

Billy Chapin ( John ) and Sally Jane Bruce (Pearl ) were excellent in their roles

Lillian Gish as the  old lady that takes the children in and protects them against the killer Robert Mitchum

In Another blog  , someone says this 1955 movie  storyline was based on the 1932

" Lonely Hearts " murderer Harry Powers of Moundsville, WV . Unknown to me if this is true .

Haunting, beautiful, terrifying film.  Stark juxtaposition of good and evil.  I always wish Laughton had directed more films....

Such a great film.  When he calls to the kids, "Chilllldren!" Goosebumps.
