When I worked in the veterinary field we had a client who had two Basset Hounds and when she would bring them into the office many of the other clients were surprised at how much they weighed. I think many people just assume that they are the same size as Beagles.
Bassets are actually larger dogs with just shorter legs. They are very sweet dogs and just love to have attention from everyone. I don't think I've ever met one who had a ounce of aggression or a tendency to be snappish.
When you work in the field you quickly learn which breeds are easy to work with and which breeds are difficult. As most people, I have a few breeds that I just love and a few breeds that I wouldn't consider owning.
