Naked and Afraid - Spoilers...maybe!

So changing the channels I came upon "Naked and Afraid", XL, South Africa and I see this woman who is naked EXCEPT she is wearing false eyelashes!  I swear, no one has lashes that are that long, flip up at the end of the eye and that thick!  What?

I've watched this show before but that takes the cake.  I have yet to undestand the purpose of this show.

Re: Naked and Afraid - Spoilers...maybe!

I don't care for these nude shows and they have one where couples go on dates naked too. I find it offensive and worry that children may come across it. I guess I'm just old fashioned. I do wonder about young people today who seem to enjoy these types of shows. The networks in my opinion have simply run out of ideas. I will stick to the Q. I enjoy the hosts on their and don't have to worry about any questionable programming coming into my living room.

"Marie Claire:

On a *way* lighter note, everyone seems fascinated with your eye makeup.

Your liner and lashes are perfect.

Were you allowed to bring eyeliner on the trip?

Tawny Lynn:

I'm gonna have makeup the entire time I'm out there because I have permanent eyeliner and eyelash extensions.

I have pretty good-looking makeup the whole time.

I don't know why people don't understand permanent makeup exists!

Being a single mother it makes life so much easier to just roll out of bed and go."

I hadn't heard of permanent makeup so had to find a picture.  Here's Tawny Lynn, the N&A contestant:

Thanks for that info.  I do know that with lash extensions, as the lashes grow, eventually the extensions will fall out.  Is this a repeat?  If so how did this woman do?  I'm curious.

I have watched it before.  I saw the follow-up with the Army guy who the bugs ate part of his ear off and his partner got parasites so bad she almost died.  I haven't checked up on them in awhile.  Think I will.  I think this is one of the dumbest shows on TV and boy is that saying a lot.  I know, I watch some of these dumb shows!  Ha!  They must all be really cheap to put on the air.

Many years ago (when it was just starting out) I was getting a mamogram (of all things) when these women were talking about going that day and getting permanent eye liner, eyebrows and I don't remember what else done.  They were nervous and were asked, "Are you crazy?  What if someone makes a mistake?"  They replied something like, "Well, it just takes too much time to keep putting it on".  Good grief!

I found the two who were on the show.  Bo Stuart (in the Army) and Debbie Harris (a wife and mother).  Here's how they finally got well and what they went through.  Some people think they were the best couple ever on the show.  I'm sure that statement is subjective.  I actually watched all of that show.

I don't believe that "old fashioned" is the word I would use if you don't like shows like this.  Morally, I think flaunting being naked on a reality show (even those some of the body parts are covered up) is just wrong.  Also, I do have permanent eyeliner and brows as I live in the desert and it sweats off.  It was one of the best things I've done.  They were done by a former dermatology nurse (30 yrs experience) and she  opened up her own business.  She also helped patients who had reconstructive breast surgery by tattoing in the areola for free.  Unforunately, she passed away from complications of back surgery in her 60's.

Re: Naked and Afraid - Spoilers...maybe!

@henderson Thank you for your post.  I've often said if I'm wrong or I "re-think" something, I admit it.  This time I think I flapped my lips too quickly.  I read your post and I can see how some would chose to have make-up tattooed for various reasons.

I like to think of myself as a 'live and let live person'.  However, I find that as I get old(er) and more cantankerous, I seem to forget that that's a part of myself I never want to change (the live and let live part).  In other words, I'm becoming something that I've always disliked about others.

So, I'd like to say it is not for me to say one way or another about anyone (for whatever reason) someone should or shouldn't have make-up permanently put on them.  I do know some people (i.e. alopecia, chemo, etc) MUST have it done).

It seems like lately I've had to "re-think" my stance on things quite a bit.  I need to think more and voice my opinion less or if my fingers get itchy on the computer, I need to see the other side of things.  Smiley Happy
