@Cakers3  David Caruso was on CSI: Miami, not NYPD Blue.

Edited to say that @aggravated reminded me that he was on NYPD Blue before CSI: Miami.  I stand corrected.

@NickNack  Caruso left NYPD Blue in a huff, believing he was "all that".  He was given a second chance with CSI Miami; his career took a dive after his hissy fit on NYPD Blue.

@NickNack  @Cakers3   David Caruso seemed to have left bad feelings every where he went. When CSI Miami premiered, Kim Delaney was also on the show. Supposedly he made her life so miserable she left before the first season ended.

@Tique  It's true that Caruso's and Delaney's characters lacked chemistry.  I don't know how much of an influence Caruso had in her departure since they also worked together on NYPD Blue.

However, KIm suffers from alcoholism; a DUI in Jan. 2002 and loss of custody of her son due to her drinking may have filtered down to the premiere in September in the same year of CSI MIami.

Supposedly she had trouble with her lines regarding the vocabulary (but supposedly so did Speedle) and the producers wrote her character out and gave Kim a nice severance package.

She entered rehab after that.

I just remember her as Jenny on All My Children.  I hope her recovery today is solid.

@Cakers3  they did not work together on NYPD Blue. Caruso left a few shows into the second season. Kim Delaney started after Caruso had left. By the time she came, Jimmy Smits was already comfortably into the role of Andy's new partner.

@Tique  Ok.  Still, I don't think it was all Caruso that ended her career on CSI Miami.

Re: NYPD Blue sequel in the works

@Cakers3   Agree it was not all Carusos fault. Kim Delaney's problems with alcohol also supposedly affected her tenure on "Army Wives". I too hope she has gotten it under control now. I always liked her as an actress.

If you are interested, this is all I could find online about their problems.

SOURCE:  Star Magazine

Like two rival siblings, sources say CSI: Miami stars David Caruso and Kim Delaney constantly bickered while making the smash-hit CBS series. The bickering can stop. Delaney was canned after just 10 episodes – and she blames it on her fellow NYPD Blue alum. "Kim thinks David went to the producers and had them choose between them," a Confidential source close to Delaney says. "David obviously is the one the producers are sticking with." With about 20 million people tuning in each week, what could there be to bicker about? Think of this set as a high school for rich grown-ups where infighting is as common as bad grades.

The source says Delaney, 40, who plays DNA specialist Megan Donner, objected to her dwindling camera time and blamed it on Caruso's unwillingness to share credit for the show's success.

Does Caruso have that kind of pull?

You betcha. On the set, a production snitch adds, it's well-known that Caruso, 46, can get any actor's lines cut or changed.

"He tells everyone that (CBS President) Les Moonves loves him," the L.A. set snitch says. "That gets your attention."

Delaney's relationship with Caruso – they've known each other since the early '90s – was poisoned even further when Delaney, two sources report, started opposing Caruso's attempts to move filming permanently to Miami next season. Delaney lives and raises a 13-year-old son in Malibu and has no desire to move. Caruso, who plays hard-boiled forensic investigator Horatio Caine, has a condo on Miami Beach and can't wait to high-tail it to the tropics.

Money also became an issue. The Delaney source tells me, Caruso hit the roof when he heard that Delaney was making $75,000 an episode – close to what, I'm told, Caruso makes. "That didn't sit too well with him," Delaney's friend says. "He thinks he's the big star and no one else should be paid nearly as well as him."

CBS mouthpiece Chris Ender defended the red-headed thespian.

"David Caruso had nothing to do with this," Ender says of Delaney's last
episode, airing Nov. 25. "This was a creative decision."

Delaney, however, may have hurt herself, too. Someone who worked day to day with the cast says Delaney's performance often was pale in comparison to her breakthrough role as alcoholic detective Diane Russell on NYPD Blue.

"Her head wasn't in it," that source says.

Meanwhile, several friends of the actress are worried that the setback will
send her life into a tailspin again.

"After Kim's last show, Philly, bombed, she was so happy to get on CSI: Miami," a former lover of hers says.

Allegations of boozing have dogged Delaney recently. Earlier this year, she pleaded no contest to reckless driving after cops arrested her on suspicion of driving drunk. She was never charged with DUI.

As for Caruso, he made one of TV history's biggest blunders by leaving the hot NYPD Blue after just a season and a half to fail miserably in the movies. "This may be his last chance," a TV insider says.

"But he's letting this new success get to his head and that's what happened the last time."

@Tique  If Moonves was involved...............I think that puts all of this in a different light.

While I agree that Caruso was a total jerk regarding NYPD Blue and most likely carried an attitude over to CSI Miami, he was still on a bit of shaky ground before that second chance.

I think Kim had enough of her own demons to deal with; and while I do not doubt reports I am also uncomfortable with descriptions like "snitch" to sell magazines.

Actually I found the show rather corny;  and once Speedle died I totally lost interest.

I wonder what ever happened to CSI NY with Gary Sinese.  That one wasn't too bad.

Re: NYPD Blue sequel in the works

I'd love to see this back. But don't think the characters and originality of the original series can be reproduced. I'd need to see Sipowicz -- they could never recreate that character.

I absolutely would not watch if David Caruso is cast.

Re: NYPD Blue sequel in the works

I'm watching a rerun from 2003 right now.   NYPD Blue and The West Wing are my favorite shows from the past.   I'd watch a reboot of both and hope for the best.

Re: NYPD Blue sequel in the works

When I finished streaming all of Hill Street Blues on Hulu, I started watching NYPD Blue.  I didn't watch either show during their on-air runs, but am enjoying them in syndication.  Surprised, though, by the nudity/sex scenes in NYPD Blue for a network program.  I've read that David Caruso, who was in the Shamrock gang on Hillstreet, left NYPD Blue on bad terms because he kept trying to get out of his contract to become a movie star and made people miserable with his diva personality.  I'm just now on season 5 of NYPD Blue.  Honestly, I find these shows better than most of the current line-ups on TV, so I'll be looking forward to the reboot.  Thanks for sharing about it.  Sorry to see Dennis Franz won't be back.  I liked his NYPD character better than his Hill Street Blues character.  Overall, I've enjoyed his work as an actor.

I did the same. I finished Hill Street Blues a couple of months ago, and started NYPD Blue soon after, both runnintg on the same over-the-air channel. I agree that these shows are better than the network shows of today.

Re: NYPD Blue sequel in the works

Steven Bochco sure had a talent for creating interesting characters.  I hope the NYPD Blue reboot will be able to honor his legacy now that he has passed on.
