A favorite star of mine was always Claudette Colbert. I have read she was a fashion designer, she was always dressed so beautifully

 

I loved everything she wore in The Egg and I. I'm not sure who designed her clothes

Jud, have you looked at the Sargent portraits I listed on the book thread?  Here's the first one on my list, "Lady Agnew of Lochnaw."  I strongly suggest you look at all of them, they're magnificent:

I look at his portraits and I want to be those women!  Then I remember they had no indoor plumbing, no toilets or showers, I wonder how they got clean and imagine they must all have smelled terrible.
