Re: Mister Rogers The Movie!

this documentary is so well-done - and impossible to get through without shedding a tear.  not only was it a walk down Memory Lane in terms of our nation's history the last 50 years, it was mainly the portrait of such a sensitive, insightful, talented man.   the theater was almost full - kind of unusual for a non-commercial movie here in L A.  everyone was engrossed - all ages.  i attribute the attendance to the fact that Mister Rogers touched so many -  and it's hard to find a decent movie to go to right now!

so glad i saw it.  i was  touched and inspired - and at the end i felt how much the adults of today, even more than the kids, need to live by the guidelines of  Mister Rogers' Neighborhood.

I would love to see it. I just watched Mr. Rogers and Me. It came out in 2010, it's free with Amazon Prime. Loved it.

Re: Mister Rogers The Movie!

[ Edited ]

Although I've never seen one episode of Mr. Rogers, I loved this documentary (I'd seen previews for it and it looked really good).  I especially loved the comments from his two sons (esp. when the one son said the witch puppet was based on his aunt, Mr. Rogers' sister and then you see the sister agreeing laughingly!) and from his wife.  Those were priceless.

There was a lot of humor in the doc - I laughed a lot.  And it was interesting seeing so much history of the past 50 years.  Although I was too old for Mr. Rogers' show 50 yrs. ago, I definitely remember watching the Pinky Lee show (It's Me, it's me, my name is Pinky Lee) which pre-dated Rogers and was one of the few kids' TV shows back then.  There are clips from Pinky Lee's show in the film.

Mr. Rogers' lessons were admirable ones, as was his desire to teach children and his treatment of children.  I loved when his staff member (who was very funny - the one who kept playing practical jokes) said Mr. Rogers never had an unruly child removed from the show's audience, even though he would have.

Seeing this documentary was time very well spent.

@Pearlee

I appreciated your review.  I have not seen the documentary,

and I feel when I do, I will enjoy it.  Mr. Rogers was such a kind,

gentle soul.  My sons enjoyed his shows when they were little

guys.

@ms traditional

Although I haven't seen this movie yet, I agree!

Many people (in high places too) could benefit from

the decency Mr. Rogers tried to instill in youngsters.

@Susan in California  hope you do see the documentary.

we could all do better treating one another with kindness and decency, i think! sometimes it has to bubble up, rather than come from top down.

Re: Mister Rogers The Movie!

I watched it with my younger sister.  She was obsessed with the show and all of the characters on it.  He was a wonderful role model for young children.  His voice was so soft and soothing and I believe he made children feel safe and special.  He taught values and that a child's imagination is so valuable and can spur them on to achieve wonderful and meaningful things in their lives!  He was one of a kind.

Re: Mister Rogers The Movie!

        My kids grew up watching "Mr Rogers" and Mr. Greenjeans"!!  It was great children's entertainment; they learned about life, feelings and day to day issues.

        I attended a child development conference several years ago and Mr Rogers was the main speaker.  He was so humble

and entertaining.  But he also appeared to be quite tired and weary.  Still a very informative speech!

Re: Mister Rogers The Movie!

This is a post from last month, but I knew I'd seen a mention of  Mister Rogers.

I just watched (Amazon) Mister Rogers and Me.  What a great show.  He indeed was one of a kind.  I know there's other good people out there, but he took his message of kindness and acceptance of others much farther.

Now I want to get a few books on him, and that he wrote.  What a dear loving heart of a person he was.
