Makes you wonder how much research goes into these matches, also how qualified these Hosts really are.  I don't think Dr. Pepper was any help when Kate called her.

@Jamma  - The experts are the STARS of the show. They don't see the couples as much as you would think. There is a team of certified specialists who work with them all of the time. The experts are who we see on TV. Smiley Happy

@snoop - If this were real life, maybe Kate should talk to a lawyer. But it's not. It's a reality show, and these kids are coached on how to act and what to say, just like most reality shows. Luke has said in interviews that actually he and Kate got along much better than the show let on. Also, a previous "groom" said he was told to say a line over and over again until they got the footage they wanted. Smiley Wink

It sounds like, if what I've read is true, Kate wasn't Luke's type to begin with.  Her looks I mean, not gender.  But as far as what Luke says in an interview, I wouldn't believe much of what he's said.  He has proven to be, as I said before, the king of deflection.  Unless he came clean to her early on and they agreed to just be friends or he chose to actually be kind to her for appearance sake every now and again.

I have no doubt on the previous groom's statement.  I got hooked on that Temptation Island and some man was at a restaurant when one of the couples got engaged.  He said that they had to shoot it over and over again because the restaurant patrons didn't clap loud enough.  But back to Luke.  If this is really a nice, kind guy, and these people allow themselves to actually be portrayed in such a way that they take the social media raking over the coals that he did, they are crazy to go on or must be paid a ton of money or he has gotten so much business in his dating business that he doesn't care.  And I feel horrible if he really was in the closet and trying to stay there.  If so, this really blew up in his face.  In one article I read during this finale that is coming up he got upset and he walked off the set (yet again) and commented "they found out I'm gay" (gist).  His mic was still on.

Re: Married at First Sight Finale tonight!!!!

@wsmom, I believe i may have read the article you speak of at soapdirt dot com.  Interesting reading there along with pictures.  And something about the guy they matched her with withdrawing at the last minute, so paired her with him.

And the things that Luke's mom said to Kate; apparently she must know her son should not have gone on the show.  If this turns out to be true, whatever monies were paid to him should have to be returned.   Sadly, Kate is the one who paid the price for this.

Apparently these so called pros didn't do much checking on him.

@beach-mom  Kate looked deflated and miserable.  It didn't seem like she was "acting".  It may be a reality show but if she was lied to and exploited, she should seek redress if possible.

Re: Married at First Sight Finale tonight!!!!

Well, as far as Luke goes.....who knows.  I think it's sad that, although we've come a long way as far as being Gay is a negative, we obviously have a long way to go.

It really bothers me that being Gay is considered any different than being Heterosexual.

As I've said before, I have several Gay members in my family (several are married with children).

I asked one (a male) why it's necessary to say they are Gay.  He said he thinks it's because for so long Gays had to keep it hidden, they now want it known.

But obviously, that's not always the case (Luke, if he is).  As far as his friends not knowing if he is Gay, well, as much as he hangs out with them, they'd be ignorant not to know it, so I doubt that's an issue.  I'd say it's more likely he is Bisexual based on the pictures I've seen.  That would have probably made him more likely to know what or who he wanted.

It was terrible to see the light go from this girl week after week.  I agree with some of you, if that was me, I'd see some kind of apology (on line....at least) from them because there is no way he was into this 'experiment' (as I heard one specialist refer to it).

I just keep shaking my head at the thought that one would have to go to something like this to find a partner for life!

How hard up would you be to just give up at the age of 30 something?  For many people, that's just getting started in life.

Think about it people...I'm 72 and a lot of people here are in their 50's and 60's.  What if we'd have 'cashed it in' back when we were in our mid 30's?  Good grief!

There's so much more to do and places to go and ways to meet people.  My youngest daughter turns 39 this year.  She isn't and hasn't ever been married.  She has a boyfriend (since high school) but I don't know if they'll ever get married.  They each have their own houses and are very happy together.

If I were these people who got divorced, I'd consider it a 'sign' and get back out there and go places and meet people.

Life is amazing and wonderful and so are most people...don't many of you agree?

@snoop - You're right. She did look miserable. But I'm just not sure she was actually lied to. I didn't think all of the times she cried sounded like someone who was really distraught. These kids sign a contract that the show can portray them the way the producers want. They are each paid the same amount, which I believe is about $25,000. We will never know exactly what really happened until one of them talks a few years from now.

As far as her suing, I found this:

"To all of the people screaming for a lawsuit against Lifetime or MAFS, reality show contracts are airtight. They all sign their lives away to be on the show. The terms of the contracts completely cover the network and the production company."

Whoever Luke is or isn't, and however Kate was treated, this is what I know. DD's college friend works with him at his full-time engineering job. She doesn't know him that well personally, but she says he's a nice guy. Before the show started she said things might be different from what we see.

Personally I think he did the show to promote his part-time speed dating business. But IDK.

I can't believe if everything we think is correct, his MOTHER would agree to have the conversation with Kate that she did!

I think most of these contestants go on the show for reasons other than getting married. As I've said many times, on any TV or movie being filmed, two co-stars can meet and fall in love. I think that's true here too. It has worked for Jamie and Doug, and some others. Cortney and Jason were married 5 years, so I think they tried to make it real. Look at Danielle and Bobby last season. The producers were trying to find a little conflict in their situation, but couldn't. Now they have a child together! It must be hard to "play" at being married when you have no connection with your spouse! On the other hand, if when you meet your spouse, you feel something and look forward to filming together, that something can grow. Although Jamie said she was not attracted to Doug at the beginning, after she got to know him she was.

So what we will see with Luke and Kate Tuesday night:

Spoiler
Supposedly Kate confronts Luke about his Facebook. Luke storms off the set, not realizing his microphone is still on - yeah, right -  and makes a few comments. IDK if they are true or if he is acting. I liked all of the contestants this time. Bring on next season!

This season will certainly be remembered as a controversial one! It's good for ratings and discussion! Smiley Happy

ETA: They'll take care of Kate. Like some of you, I think we'll see her on MAFS: Second Chances or MAFS: Honeymoon Island

Re: Married at First Sight Finale tonight!!!!

@beach-mom How fitting (your moniker).  I love it!  In fact my best friend for over 50 years is at Nags Head, NC now celebrating her 50th wedding anniversary!  She also loves the beach.  We'd go there every year when my husband was alive.  We'd have family, friends everyone and my husband would treat all.  The house was enormous.  It was fun.

Anyway, my thoughts about life (and that phrase at the time). ... I'd heard recently that the second cause of death among young people is suicide.  That's crazy, isn't it?  It's terrible that to be so young and think life isn't worth living....the destruction left behind is terrible.

My daughter is good friends with someone who's daughter committed suicide as a teenager.  In fact she just published a book about her diary.  My own nephew committed suicide.  No one had any idea he was so disdraught.  He lived with his older brother and he was devestated for a long time.

Anyway, just wanted to tell you I was thinking about your post and if I knew you, well, I'd give you a hug.  We are huggers in our family.  Hug hello, hug good-bye.

If people'd had as many just drop dead as I've known they'd hug more too.  Anyway, take care and be safe.

Re: Married at First Sight Finale tonight!!!!

TY @Annabellethecat - You're so sweet! I'm a hugger too, so I'm sending you a virtual one! (((HUGS)))

I am so sorry about the death of your nephew. It does seem to be an epidemic everywhere.

DD's first crush overdosed. She met him when she was 14 and she went to a friend's church youth group function. They lived about an hour away. When she stayed with her friend she saw him, but luckily this girl's parents were like us - so they were never completely alone. He got involved in drugs, so his parents transferred him to a private school. It was worse there, and he quickly found the "wrong" crowd. He asked her to one of his school dances, and we drove her up. When she turned 16, she was so excited he was coming down for her small get together. His parents were OK with his driving down. She couldn't wait. Less than a week before he was gone. The kids think it was accidental, but according to her good friend's mom, he left a note. She was devastated. She kept a picture of the two of them up in her bedroom until she graduated. I don't think she ever got over it.

A couple we are really fond of from our church lost their grandson this way. He was a senior in high school. His girlfriend broke up with him, and he took his life that afternoon.

One of DS' friends from high school (and I knew his mom well) took his life after his parents divorced. He had two older sisters, and seemed to have everything going for him. You never know.

Almost everyone I know has known a young person who has taken his or her own life. It's so sad.

A girl in DS' dorm last year took her life. She was at the top of her class and involved in everything. Her dad was on the board of trustees. She was young, pretty, well-liked, and a junior in college. DS knew her to say hello, but that's it. But you still have to wonder.

Sorry to get off topic and  to write a book - guess I poured my heart out. I tell my kids to always look for signs in their friends - and to call us any time of the day or night if they need to talk.

All we can do is what you said - be there for each other! Smiley Happy
