A VERY informative show and well done. Martha knows how to make lemonaide out of smashed lemons!! I;ll give it to her for seizing the moment and opportunity
But her attitude towards some things really turned me off. And I did just that turned it off.

@chickenbutt Yes, the odd couple. Who'da thunk? Opposites attract? I don't know what makes them click but they did for me. Really enjoy them.

@JaneMarple wrote:She gives great gardening tips, about 20 years ago on one of her shows, she mentioned using suet cages to plant flower bulbs. Because many of us after planting would see them dug up and laying on top of the ground. She recommended the cages because the bulbs would stay put in the ground. From then on my sister and I have been planting our bulbs this way.
@JaneMarple Eventually, almost everything planted in a wire cage has to be dug up and divided, I know because we have to use a wire cage, DH makes them, just forms a piece of small holed chicken wire over the bottom of a pot the size of the plant, no top, due to gophers, for most everything planted in the ground. Now, the majority of plants are in large pots.
Not easy to dig anything up, as our earth is not as wonderful as Martha's, and we don't have a young guy working day in and day out doing such.

@Sooner wrote:I know a lot will disagree but I think Martha Stewart has had a huge influence on the way people live since she came along in the early 1980's.
She has made a difference in our meals, going from so many casseroles and such to a more basic and somewhat healthier style with more natural foods. If you aren't old enough believe me, look at older cookbooks from the 1960's and 1970's like Southern Living and compare that to the food in Entertaining. She was at the forefront of that trend.
She evolved from a lot of clutter and baskets to a cleaner look and a simple lifestyle and many went along on the journey. I remember when me and all my friends put our dish detergent in a pretty bottle with a spout because she did it!
Unlike a lot of wealthy trendsetters and self-styled gurus who want to tell us how to live and what to think, Martha tells us how to fold a sheet, plant some greens, or cook a chicken.
She hasn't lost touch with real life despite her wealth. NOT to say she doesn't live a wealthy lifestyle (who wouldn't?) nor does she apologize, but she still is concerned with the way she lives and is always eager to learn something or find a better way and pass it along. You can tell that learning something is exciting to her.
I like that she takes life as it comes, does something to move on from hard knocks and as far as I know or remember, doesn't whine or cry or blame others for failures. (Well, maybe the chick her husband left her for. . . )
I once heard her say "I'm not unique!" Then she laughed and said "I'm just . . . difficult!" That's not a bad attitude. You could worse!
You summed it up perfectly, @Sooner! Well said. I've been looking over some of the older images, books, magazines, etc., online after first seeing this thread and I agree with you.😊

When is this on? Remember when Martha did Christmas shows. She didn't do many but I loved watching them.

@mare54, You should be able to find it listed on Friday nights, starting at 10 p.m. ET, with 2 episodes back-to-back. I've also seen reruns on Saturday afternoon, and with Comcast I can see the shows with On Demand.

@proudlyfromNJ wrote:@World Traveler She posts a Blog every morning at 8 AM where she shows pictures and discusses many things in her life including her animals. All subjects are listed so you can choose to see her peacocks and her discussion on them. It's usually very interesting.
@proudlyfromNJ, Thank you for this!👍 I went there today to read and look at the pix... and it's great! I appreciate the recommendation.

I just watched the first 4 episodes last night. Not a great show, but since I'm not into real estate, I think it's the best show on HGTV. I have a hard time relating to gardening a 150 (?) acre property, driving around a $50,000 tractor and having gardening helpers ... but, it's a gardening show so I'll try and stick with it.
I think they're trying to cram too much into each episode, so everything seemed rushed. Stop the fake phone calls or only do one and really address the issues the gardener is having. I can do without the celebrity phone calls all together.
I like her interactions with her gardener, for the most part, so I'd like to see them focus more on actual gardening and those two sharing ideas and tips. Since she's doing everything at her property, it would also be nice if she did something along the lines of ... we're planting 'this' because it does well in my area, but if you're gardening in the South/Southwest/West you might want to try 'that' instead because it will do better in your area.
