Re: MAFS - season in Chicago

@Lisa now in AZ , @tends2dogs , wow, you both hit it on the head IMO.

The way Michelle was picking on David at the lunch was ridiculous IMO.  I said to DH, it's good he wore a sweater because of the cold, meaning her.  There's nothing he'll ever do right for her and it's no wonder why she is still single.

Madison is in the friend zone, but I think she's trying to stay/play nice for her being on TV.

I don't have anymore to add as both of you said it all.

One more thing:  This show isn't at all what it was at its inception; it appears to me that the "pros" (and I use that term loosely) match them as opposites to get the drama going.  Then they all appear in the end as if they are disappointed if they separate.  The show has gone downhill IMO; yet I continue to watch.

Re: MAFS - season in Chicago

I agree with ALL these comments. I wanted to mention something @tends2dogs pointed out about future clips showing Ikechi and Emem being persuaded by the SO-CALLED,

"experts", to move back in together, and supposedly repair the damage that's been done!

Are you kidding me? That's like putting a bandaid on an elephants A$$! No way!

I almost feel he is dangerous and I'm trying not to be dramatic in my analysis as I'm not a trained expert and don't pretend to be. He plays that "sympathy card" so well. I also am noticing that Emem is inserting lines that I'm so surprised the lovely producers didn't choose to edit out. For example she mentioned that Ikechi had applied for this show once before on the Texas season. It looked like a surprise to some of them, but others seemed to almost act like that explains some of what is going on with him. Even the men for the most part think Ikechi is acting strangely, especially Allen. Juan was a little more "user friendly" and tried to blame both of them as it takes two to tango. Not always.

I'm probably one of the few that did not like Camille from the beginning. She injects "skin color" in every situation and loves to be trodden upon. Punishing Thomas for being late was so petty. I almost like finding out that he was justified in his purchase of expensive jewelry in a distant suburb of Chicago. Too bad it's for her though Smiley Sad

The previews for Karla with a "K" and a self-soothing rose, trying to levitate poor Juan next time, along with a sumo wrestler in a teddy made me ill. I'd  be off that table if someone accidentally pricked me with long-stemmed thorn from a rose, especially in certain touchy areas. What a flake!

Michelle the mad hatter makes me sick. She just loves feeling sorry for herself. David is a saint for the way he just absorbs the insults and keeps smiling.

Madison is there for the TV exposure. Poor Allen is also a sainted mate going along for the ride, but more like a bucket calf that doesn't see the full picture yet. He beat her at tennis, I loved it! Can you imagine him having to squawk like a chicken as punishment for losing? She's just plain mean.

Re: MAFS - season in Chicago

Great post, @Fiddlededum .  I agree completely.

At the couples dinner Michelle acted like a different person.  Her personality changes when David is around.

I wonder how much background checking they actually do on these people.  ICK is a major mental case.......waiting to explode.  I would be afraid to be alone with him.  The others concurred on his strange behavior.  I am thinking they have seen things that have been off camera, too.

Yes, I saw the preview with the roses. I didn't realize they were trying to levitate Juan.  I don't go for any of that including the sage burning.  Karla is a kook and needs to grow up.  By quitting her job, she may have been trying to force Juan to support her.  When he asked her what she was going to do now, she said drink coffee in cafes and study her Taro cards.

I agree that the women on this season are mean.  Maybe not Karla, but she has other issues.

Fear not Brothers and Sisters! I have read THE BOOK..........we win!!!

Re: MAFS - season in Chicago

I watched last night.   I agree with everything you all are saying.

I do think the producers knew exactly what they were getting with Icky.

It seems Karla came on the show to find herself somebody to support her so she can just flit through life however the universe leads her.

Another season of zero couples to root for.

Re: MAFS - season in Chicago

Karla makes me laugh. She is such a total flake and Juan had her number from day 1. He was willing to have some fun on this "journey," but he knew she would not be the one for him. He does seem to be a hard worker and business smart. She is neither.

I also have not liked Camille from the beginning. She is not kind to Tom and wants to change everything about him to be what she thinks she wants. Same with Allen and Madison - she is just not kind to him and he is, hopefully, going to stop being so patient and realize they have nothing.

But,I really hated the punishment that was directed at the men when the wives were in charge of the activities. I would never want to humiliate a partner. Or anyone. They seemed to be very pleased with themselves - except that Madison lost.

OH boy, sometimes my warped sense of humor gets the best of me, sorry : (

Okay, certain parts of Juan's anatomy were probably suppose to be aroused by this ritual, but levitate his entire body was not in the cards. She probably left her Tarot cards in her storage unit, as that might just be her next home.

I doubt that he felt what they wanted either.

@Wsmom  Glad to see you posting in here. I know this season is a boring challenge at times. I think this is a nice group of posters on QVC. I enjoy the commraderie.

I miss a few "oldies but goodies". Noticed some migrating over to other social media regularly posting, like Reddit and Mafsfan. To each, their own, I just happen to like my "oldie but goddie" friends here. I hope you feel the same way.

Is there still another forum on QVC (I can't remember what that was called in the old days it was fairly active). I met people like @beach-mom @LTT1 @ciao_bella @bayflwc   @tends2dogs @HisElk1 @Lisa now in AZ @AngelPuppy1 @Mmsfoxxie  for the first time there. Even @decaf. Anyone care to share a link to that forum as well?

I honestly have nothing to add to the posts already here.  I agree with you all. The men, with the exception of IKE deserve better.

Hi @Fiddlededum ! We used to have a MAFS spoiler forum. DD had a sort-of connection to two of the grooms, one from Philadelphia and one from Boston.

I'm putting everything below in spoiler format because I say everything I've learned about the show from those two seasons. Please don't read if you don't want to know!

Spoiler

Luke, from the Philadelphia season, was portrayed as a really terrible guy. DD's friend from college worked in his group at an engineering firm. She said he was a really nice guy, and not at all as they portrayed him on the show. She said he wore a wedding ring and others teased him about it, but of course he couldn't say anything. He had to act like he was really happy in his new marriage. Luke also ran a matchmaking service, which is where the producers found him.
Spoiler

After that is when I learned their "apartments" (or houses in the early MAFS days) were sound stages. They all kept their regular jobs, filmed late at night into early morning and on weekends, but could go back to their regular homes. No one had to give up anything; the show just made it seem like they did.

Spoiler

The other groom was Mark from Season 14 Boston. DD's close friend, who she has known since middle school, went up there for college and stayed. Mark is one of HER friends! Again, she said he is nothing like what they portrayed him as. His "bride" Lindsey was constantly putting him down. At the end of the show they stayed together, but broke up shortly after. DD's friend (who she saw when she came to visit her parents over the holidays) said Mark is still a personal trainer. He and Lindsey are good friends too.

I like figuring things out by clues. Before Reality Steve, I belonged to a Bachelor group that discussed clues to figure out the final three. Girls from the "hometowns" would post, we would look at nail polish in the final screen shots, etc. The best part was when a former associate producer of the show joined our group. We had so much fun! I learned about the group from two former contestants who had written about what "really" happens.

I enjoy watching MAFS and its spinoffs. I really like Couples' Couch, and I love seeing the children! But I just couldn't keep up after season 16. I DVR'd it, but never watched. I might jump back in one of these days!  Smiley Wink

Re: MAFS - season in Chicago

@beach-mom, I LOVE your inside scoops - thanks for sharing. I think the show has taken such a horrible turn that most of us aren't interested in following the lives of any of these couples, and can't wait for them to go away. Old timers, like Keith and Kristine and a few others who stayed together are fine, but many of the later cast just want the exposure and don't care how they are portrayed.

I am guessing that people like Luke didn't have any idea how they would portray him and Kate got the sympathy story. Which, we later learned was all fake and she was lying the whole time. So now they don' even hire likeable people, which makes it hard to watch and/or care. And yet, despite our yearly protests, here we are again!
