I used to LOVE M.A.S.H. Eventually, I didn't care for it anymore. Here are the order of events in its demise IMO:
Trapper John left and was replaced by BJ.
Henry Blake dies and is replaced by Potter
Frank Burns leaves and Charles enters.
Radar leaves and Klinger is back in uniform rather than dresses, to take over his job.
I preferred the show when it was humorous rather than when it started trying to make a statement.

@faeriemoon - I agree. It changed when Alan Alda took over creative control of the show. I think you can see the difference clearly.
I also believe most of the earlier actors who left regretted doing so and said this in various interviews. I know McLean Stevenson did.

@beach-mom Agree! I think most actors who leave shows thinking they're all that live to regret the decision.
