"Raised in a strict Catholic family, Theresa (Diane Keaton) teaches deaf children during the day and cruises singles bars and discos at night. Theresa favors rough sex with random suitors, ignoring the advances of well-meaning but nerdy social worker James (William Atherton). Instead, Theresa pursues the likes of Tony (Richard Gere), whose threatening knife and swagger excite her. Theresa indulges in increasingly dangerous encounters, putting her life at risk."
This move was based on the murder of Roseann Quinn that happened in 1973.
Richard Gere 😳

This movie really affected me, when I saw it so many years ago. To watch this characters self destructive behaviors was difficult, particularly when I had seen similar behaviors in some patients. Like watching a slow train wreck.
A few times in report I can remember saying --- this one is in trouble. She's looking for Mr. Goodbar. Everyone knew what I meant.

Wow I haven't seen that in many moons but it definitely was a memorable movie.
@Mz iMac - are you still watching or do you watch Power the final season?

I remember seeing this film a long time ago. It was one of the first things I saw Richard Gere in. I was surprised that an actress as famous as Diane Keaton would agree to the nudity in the film. I found the film disturbing.

Gere was an unknown at the time, very hard movie to watch.
