Did anyone watch this? I watched it back in the 80s when they were re-runs. When thinking back, the subject matter on a lot of those episodes were so tragic! Like Mary going blind, a teen girl getting raped and got pregnant from the rape and she dies in an accident. Mary losing her baby in a house fire. Also other random accidents that killed people!

Don't get me wrong, there was some comic relief here and there but this show had a way of really emphasizing trauma. I understand this is based on a real family and a lot of those things really happened to them. I also wonder if some of those were made up. Also, this took place in the Victorian Era / Wild West Era  when medicine wasn't as advanced and not much could be done about certain illnesses and injuries. But there were lessons from the show you can from.
