Just saw "Blow the Man Down"

[ Edited ]

On Amazon.  It was terrific!  Title is from the sea shantie Blow the man down.  Takes place in a tiny sea port in Maine.   It's a very clever black comedy/drama.  It scored 99% on Rotten Tomatoes review.

@songbird  I watched that movie a few weeks ago and thought it was good.  I *almost* turned it off at the gruesome scene in the beginning, but I'm glad I stayed with it.  It was a good story!  👍👍

And thought it could have been a really good movie.

It was entertaining but just ended without tying together all the

loose ends.

They left it hanging which was good in a way.  Everyone in that town had secrets.  When the sister pass that women at the end, one more secret was added.

The sea shanties really made that movie.  I love Blow the man down anyway.  Really cool song.

@songbird   thanks for the recommendation. DH & I watched it earlier.  Loved it and DH did  not fall asleep.  I all thought the singers were fantastic.

Re: Just saw "Blow the Man Down"

In case anyone is wondering about the origins of Blow the man down, it first appeared in the early 1860's during the age of sail.   It's author is anonymous

The meaning of the song means to knock down a man.  In the film, the society seems to be a Patriarchy, but in fact the woman run the town.
