I love how emotional and transparent @bonnie f is with her feelings and it got me to thinking about a question I've seen posters ask which is if, or why, people care about this trial. I figured as long as we're hanging around waiting for the verdict I'd answer as to my own feelings on the subject. The first question "do people care" is the easiest to answer and is obviously yes.
Many, possibly millions, of people were watching or listening to the trial every day. Not only was it televised but all you have to do is go to Youtube and search Johnny Depp trial live. There is a list of channels that streamed it everyday and look at the # of views they got each day. According to one online lawyer, Emily Baker, she had the #1 podcast in entertainment news on iTunes in the US, Ireland, and Canada. In the UK, Sweden, the Netherlands, South Africa, Great Britain, and Portugal it's in the top 5. Her topic during these ratings? You can probably guess.
I'm not sure why I find it so interesting but I do. I was glued to the TV during the OJ trial, same for Jodi Arias, the Menendez brothers, Casey Anthony and Scott Peterson to a lesser extent. Then there was the Trayvon Martin case, the Rittenhouse trial, and Ahmaud Arbery. I find the court system fascinating. When I was being interviewed as a possible juror a while back and saw Christopher Darden in the courthouse it was all I could do to keep from asking for his autograph. I don't even know that much about him but I admired him so much for how hard he tried to get OJ convicted and how much it affected him when the not guilty verdict was rendered. Mostly I just wanted him to know how his work in that trial affected me. Thankfully I was able to refrain.
The question of why people care is a little harder. I read the reason court cases are so interesting to some of us could be because we get to see into the mind of someone who is being accused of doing something we would never think of doing and when we find that thing to be something egregious we have an innate sense of justice we need to have satisfied.
As to do I (we) really care about this? I can only answer for myself but, again, my answer is yes I care. The previous trials mentioned were criminal cases where murder was involved so I would hope everyone cares about that. This case is less serious in that no one lost their life but in a country where free speech is valued no one should be allowed to lie, especially about something as heinous as sexual abuse, and not be held accountable. We kept hearing from AH's lawyers that they just want Johnny to leave AH alone but the truth is if it weren't for her lies they wouldn't be there at all.
I remember my feeling of shock and disappointment when the verdict was read not guilty for OJ Simpson and then again for Casey Anthony. I don't know if my inate sense of justice will be satisfied when this case is over. Regardless of what the verdict says it's already very satisfying to see that the world--and yes I mean the world (remember Emily's stats)--was able to see the manipulation and lies of AH.
Hopefully JD will win in court but, if not, he has clearly already won in the court of public opinion. If that has to be enough then so be it but, like so many of you, I'm holding out hope the jury gets it right.
So, that's my take on the question of if and why people care.
I wonder if those of you who have also been invested in this trial feel the same or if your reasons are different. If nothing else it gave me something to think about while waiting for the verdict.
Oh, and one last thought...I just want to say I've enjoyed posting with all of you during this trial. It's been fun reading everyone's thoughts and opinions so, whatever happens, whatever the outcome, thank you for the experience. It's truly been a pleasure. ![]()

Even though Johnny has being walking out of stressful situations since childhood, he should have gotten it together emotionally to attend the verdict. Bring a therapist along if necessary.

Emily Baker has been going over all the questions and what they mean. She's a fast talker and I'm already nervous, lol. But she's very interesting.
