@Alter Ego I didn't know that there were 2 new version being done.

I thought that the show Tuesday night was it.

So maybe Melissa McCarthy is going to be in the other version.

@Dusty1  Yes, there will be a live action feature film, similar to how Disney redid Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin.  IMDB said it will begin filming in April 2020 and McCarthy is rumored to be Ursula in that bigger budget movie (has quite a few big names actually.) The TV event on Tuesday is completely different.

This is basically a scaled down version of what we've been seeing in other live tv musicals over the last few years like "The Sound of Music" and "The Wiz" They borrowed this 'hybrid" idea from the productions they do at the Hollywood Bowl every year where they have large screens which show the majority of the cartoon, then cut to live performers on stage who sing the big numbers. 

 

This is not the live-action film that is still happening starring Halle Bailey as Ariel and Melissa McCarthy as Ursula.
