It's this time of year I miss the Andy Williams, and Dean Martin shows.

The variety shows that use to have families, etc. Do the Osmond's still do one? Anyone else miss these types of shows? What one(s) did you like to watch?

I am only in my 40's and it was always a time of year that we would gather around the tv and watch Christmas specials when I was a little girl. It doesn't seem there are these type of shows as much anymore. Idk though.

Do you gave GET TV?  They air those old Christmas specials frequently during the holiday season.  They started last year and are doing it again now.  This past week they had Andy Williams and Perry Como on and will also be showing The King Family holiday show.

I love those old Christmas specials.  Guess I am showing my age, but they don't make them like that anymore.

Just checked the listing and Perry Como will be on Sunday night at 10PM Eastern.

We used to watch Mitch Miller and sing along with his music,  we looked foreword to Dean Martin, Andy Williams,  Rudolph, Frostie the Snowman, the Grinch and Bing Crosby.  Great memories.  I still watch the Andy Williams special on PBS with his family and his brothers who sing with him.  My favorite is when they are in the fake sleigh scene.  With every show we got more excited for Christmas to come.

Andy Williams and Perry Como were great on TV.  Perry Como singing "Ave Maria"!  Both men had a warmth that played so well on the small screen.  Interesting that at this time it tends to be the "cool" personas who do well on TV, or the visibly highly neurotic!

Speaking of neurotic, I've seen snippets of Judy Garland's TV show on youtube and much of it was fantastic, depite the difficulty they seem to have had putting it on the air.  And if you google something like "Judy Garland's Christmas Special" it's great fun to watch.  It has teenage Liza and younger children Lorna and Joey, all of whom perform with their mother.  Judy was just an incredible, electric, mesmerizing talent.

I think you can also google whole chunks of Frank Sinatra specials too.  What a great era of television!

Here on Comcast we lost our GET TV last Jan, they switched us to Antenna TV, but they sure did have all the old Xmas specials on all last season.

Agree with you.  I liked those family Christmas shows, especially Andy Williams.

I sure do.  I watched Ed Sullivan, loved Red Skelton, Dean Martin's shows were hilarious, Flip Wilson, Andy Williams.  I really miss the variety shows. Carol Burnette.  They do not make shows like they use to.  Oh how could I forget Milton Burle "uncle Milty"  Family time was TV time.  I still remember some of the line ups.  We would watch Disney then Bonanza.  Great topic  Sonny and Cher.  Smiley Happy
