Baby, look at me and tell me what you see
You ain't seen the best of me yet
...

I can catch the moon in my hand
Don't you know who I am?
Remember my name
I'm gonna live forever
I'm gonna learn how to fly
I feel it coming together
People will see me and cry
I'm gonna make it to heaven
Light up the sky like a flame
I'm gonna live forever
Baby, remember my name

Irene Cara as Coco in 1980’s Fame.

RIP IC, she and FAME were such an inspiration!

@golding76

Fame (1980) and Flashdance (1983) are 2 different movies.  Irene Cara sang the theme songs for both.

IC was one of the lead characters in Fame but I don't think she was in Flashdance.  Jennifer Beals was the lead in Flash Dance.

Both the title song "Fame" and that film's other single, "Out Here on My Own" were sung by Irene Cara and Oscar nominated.  It was the first time that 2 songs from the same film and sung by the same artist were nominated in the same category. Cara performed both at the Oscar ceremony, and "Fame" (written by Michael Gore and Dean Pitchford), won the Oscar that year.

Cara sung (and co-wrote with Giorgio Moroder and Keith Forsey) the title song for the movie Flashdance.  That song won her an Oscar and a Grammy and a Golden Globe, and am sure other awards.

She was the first Hispanic-black woman to win an Oscar in a category other than an acting category.

RIP IC. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

I was just about to post this.  Just saw the news.  No word on cause of death.

This is such sad news.  How I loved her spirited performance in Fame.  (Was the movie called Flashdance?  My mind is very tired today.  I am thinking of the movie.)

I have such fond memories of the movie and that era.  Her death hurts my soul.  She was too young.

May she rest in peace!

Same for me @golding76

How sad to hear of her death.  I loved her songs and her voice.  "Out Here On My Own" was also a fantastic song she sang in the movie Fame.

May she rest in peace. What an incredible talent she had.

I love the words from the end of that song: "I may not win, but I can't be thrown... out here on my own."
