Indian Summers PBS who's watching?

I'm on the fence on this show. It's not anywhere near as good as Downtown Abbey. I love India and movies and series based there but this one isn't really that interesting so far. First off the British Raj is not my favorite time period in India and secondly it's certainly having a slow start for a series. Not very many likeable characters either. I really want to like this show so I hope it improves.

I watch a lot of British programs and I just couldn't get into this.  Yawn.

Just finished the second episode- I'm going to try to hang in there hoping it gets a little more exciting!  I can't seem to get a handle on where the story line is going...

It was renewed for a second season so I'm hoping it gets better.

Re: Indian Summers PBS who's watching?

OK, I watched it again (repeat) this morning.  This is so not like a show I'd like.

I can't explain why it holds my interest.  The entire time I'm watching it, I keep thinking, "Annabelle, this isn't you".  But maybe because it seems like a mystery and is so well acted.

Usually period pieces like this bore me because I find them depressing.  There's so much in the news that is depressing, I get tired of watching TV shows that are.

I'm the first to admit a lot of the politics of this show goes over my head (the liberation of India).

Anyway, I guess I'm like all of you.  I keep watching it.  There are so many other really good British shows, I can't explain it.

Does anyone know if it's based on a book?  It just seems like something that would be based on a book.  If I had to take a test on what is going on I'd get an F (is there a lower grade 'cause I'd get that).

Here is a link to background info regarding India and The Empire, as well as a synopsis of the last two episodes.

You may find this helpful in clearing up some questions, I know I did!

I agree with the statement (on one of these Indian Summers threads) that there isn't a single character to like.

They are all odd and some are down right creepy.

I'll hang in (it's only 6 episodes) so maybe something may change.

Well the sister seems likable to me, the one with the baby. I can't remember her name.
