I was born and raised in Brooklyn too, and although I now live abut 50 miles from NYC, I haven't lived there in at least 50 years. However, I still have my Brooklyn accent. I'm very proud of it although I know many people make fun of it. I never said anything like "Toidy toid and toid," or "Flush da terlet," but I do maintain my Brooklynese.
