I grew up outside of NYC and went to the parade often. My DD marched in the Macy's parade 10 years ago with her high school band. The kids and the parents do the fundraising. They went by bus, from AL to NYC, stayed in a hotel in New Jersey.
She also was blessed to be able to march in the Tournament of Roses parade in Pasadena before she graduated. They flew to the west coast but needed several trucks to deliver the instruments and uniforms. Those poor guys had to drive the trucks.
Her high school does this all the time, it's quite a production but it goes very smoothly. They've had a lot of practice.
My DD really appreciates her experience. Not too many people can boast they marched in both parades.
I marched in the St Patrick's Day parade in NYC back in the day. Grueling!
