I haven't found many shows or programs that I enjoy on "regular" TV for a long time now.  I have enjoyed watching Young Sheldon and Blacklist but Young Sheldon is aging out and the story line is kind of silly now and Blackllist is get boring.  No new shows really catch my attention.  We do have Netflix and Disney Plus but don't watch it as much as we thought we would.  Disney Plus has been great for my husband because of The Madalorina and Bobba Fett (Star Wars stuff), but once the 6 or so episodes is over, it takes so long for something new to come out.  There are some shows and programs that caught my eye on streaming sights but we'd have to pay for so many because they're all on different streaming channels it would cost a fortune and that's not happening.

I like TV.  If I'm at home, the TV is on.  For the most part I watch MSNBC, Hallmark Movies and Mysteries, UNCTV, Hallmark, and a few cooking shows.

It's not that I'm concerned about squeaky clean TV because I'm not but am inclined to agree that overall, TV stinks. I have what should be a decent cable package, for which I pay dearly, so I'm simply not willing to keep paying more and more for premium, subscription and streaming channels. For what I already pay, I should be able to find something viable to watch but rarely can. It seems like the only things on offer are pretty dreadful and agenda driven network fare, the same decade (at least) old sitcoms, endless CSI/NCIS/Law and Order reruns and so on. Even PBS, which used to be a solid choice, has offered very little worth watching for months, and frankly, when they do offer actual entertainment (rather than news or documentary) programming, they need to up the ante and order some new seasons of old favorites. The same old reruns are more stale than stale.

And, if you have cable and the assortment of "premium" channels, don't forget the endless lectures.

And we continue to pay for this.

@Midmod

I totally agree with you---

Thankfully Im a football fan and also NBA Spurs fan so that keeps me entertained.......

But yes, today's sitcoms are not even funny---the attempts at humor are either juvenile or the bathroom variety, or lewd, crude, or rude stuff

The so called "dramas" or "action" genre are the same lame repetitive plots you've seen a thousand times--

And the only other thing on are the ENDLESS talent shows or reality shows....😴

TCM will show a good movie from the 40's once in a while when the plots, storylines, and acting were enjoyable (and Im not even from that era).....

Or occasionally I'll watch one of the classic TV channels (Decades, Antenna TV, METV) when TV shows were unique and well written and actually brought on a genuine laugh or smile......but one can only watch reruns for so long...SIGH....

There's Create TV--or when PBS airs a special music event or concert....

I'll even watch the Game Show Network but even that channel has so many show repeats....

YEP we pay a lot for so little to show for it....and if it wasnt for sports...my remote would have a lot dust on it...

Since we are no longer restricted to 3 broadcast channels, the choices are vast and unlimited.

Unless folks are still receiving only ABC, CBS and NBC via their antenna, I find it very, very, very hard to believe that there is nothing palpable to watch.  The Golf Channel? The Weather  Channel? I haven't seen much pornography there.

@Johnnyeager

Just replying with some tongue in cheek humor---

Golf?? The Weather Channel???....Now how many times can you listen to someone talk about an Isobar, Dew Points or Barometric Pressure ????....And Golf---- the announcers WHISPER which can only lead to one falling asleep.....Remember, this is time that the OP will never be able to get back.....

And as for commercials--maybe not porn, but disgusting none the less---the women sitting on toilets discussing human feces......or the demonstration on shaving that delicate "femine area", or the woman worried about that area "down there" or have you seen "the crooked carrot commercial"..... Or for the ultimte in boring ----a string of has been celebrities and athletes discussing "the exciting world of Medicare options..."

Perhaps "Toon In With Me" on METV which shows old classic cartoons would be a much better form of entertainment than Golf????  Weather?????....SMH....... OR there's always TCM with the possibility of a Johnnyeager film,eh??? 😉😃

Give me 40 lashes with a wet noodle but I like watching live tournament programming on the Golf channel.  Same with tennis and NASCAR.

I thought you might enjoy this from  a discussion when an NFL fan read that Amazon or Apple might be buying the NFL's SUNDAY NIGHT TICKET programming----just too funny---

@afootballfanforcedtowatchHallmark---Meh, I never had Sunday ticket. My wife’s strict interpretation of the FCC’s equal time rule means I have to watch an equivalent amount of Hallmark in my house as sports. Sometimes I’m afraid to peek in on a game knowing that hours later I’m going to have to sit there and find out if Claire is going to save that inn in Vermont she inherited.-------

To each their own. Don't like tv? Don't watch it.

I don't watch South Park but it is well known for being irreverent and over the top. The 2 new commercials are rather creative and reflect that.

Relax. I'm going on 70 and it is what it is. It's not Father Knows Best anymore.

The South Park commercial that aired starts incongruously as many do. That's purposeful for the shock value. Was it creative? Only in how much shock and Twitter comments it could generate or how disgusting it could be for traditional Americans like me.
And did it take much inventiveness and individuality to pens the words to the song sung? And why not air it?
Because we will continue to pay for the few shows we feel comfortable watching to spend time with our loved ones. I've seen many jabs taken at that 50's show FKB. Of course it was idealized. But for me it showed a time in TV when network heads realized that it was more important for innocents to remain innocent and maybe it was better not to portray society as it was, but could be, if our hearts were more pure.

I posted this thread in utter shock over one commercial. Of course I know not everyone feels as I do. And I wouldn't want everyone to! I respect everyone's opinion. We'll enjoy what we can watch and turn off what we can't.

Most times I mute commercials. And I will continue to do so. I only wish I could get back that 5 seconds.
