I subscribe to YT TV through Verizon.  My bill has not changed from $64/month for the past year & a half.  I know the amount has gone up.  Verizon pays the difference as I pay Verizon instead of YT TV.  Internet & landline are FREE!

I've been a Directv satellite customer for over 20 years. Each year they raise my rates but I have to call them to lower it to an agreeable amount good for a year. BUT the last time they lowered it they increased my rates three months into my year agreement to lower it. I was furious.

@Sugipine  If you had a "written" contract for the lower price, Directv comitted a "Federal" crime in the FCC eyes for doing what they did to you.

Per Federal law, w/your bill there should be info on how to contact the FCC.  If I were you, I would be sending them a "snail" mail letter an email & contacting your local news consumer reporter anchor person.

Just remember, you will have to pay for your internet access in addition to the streaming service. Depending on that cost, $125 might not be that bad.

@Mz iMac

I called Directv CS and asked about the increase. They told me the charges for equipment leasing and insurance went up. That had nothing to do with the discounted package I'm getting. Still furious.

I got about 30.00 reduction, but only get the basic channels and streaming.

I can stream, but would have to pay for hulu, and all the other stuff.

I watch movies on Freevee, and Hoopla from the library.

I'm elderly so I'm getting the channels like when I was a kid and TV first came to the public when I was 11.  So I get enough.  I fall asleep anyway unless it is an interesting program.

I remember when cable was 35.00 a month, but we didn't have internet, which I need.

I went from 800 internet to 75 and I do not notice a difference, but then I don't do facebook and all that other stuff.

My bill is still 126.00 a month.  It would be 156.00, but because I'm low income ACP takes 30.00 off.

You have to make less than 2200 a month to receive.

@Sugipine.  Most streaming services offer short free trials.  Why don't you try some before making a 2 year commitment?

I still want the experience of having the 'cable/satellite experience' with the features that come along with it. Streaming falls short of those offerings so I'm considering going to Directv Stream which is almost the exact same thing as their satellite service except it's on the internet and significantly cheaper. Directv Stream offers 3 levels of packages. All I need to do is get them to ship me their streaming box w/remote and then pick a package which is price-fixed for 2 years. Still deciding.

If you already have a smart TV I don't believe you need their streaming box to do the Direct TV streaming.

Re: I Need Streaming Advice

[ Edited ]

We bought Roku...........many many free streaming services, and then we did subscribe to HULU for $7.99 a month.   We live in the country we have an antenna for local channels. We don't miss having that big monthly bill at all. Hope this info helps you.

We enjoy Tubi, which is free streaming, and many many others.

I changed to DirecTV about 10 years ago and love it. They do offer special promotion codes if you call. I call on each promo expiration date for a new one. Right now, I'm receiving $45 off each month since I've been there for 10+ years.

@cornicopia   Another for YouTubeTV for 3 or 4 years, maybe more, and I'm happy with it.  Yes, I do have to pay for internet but I'm definitely going to have internet in my home anyway, even if I never watch TV.   You didn't say if 125.00 includes your internet.  If it does, you are getting a really good price.
