Re: How Did I Never Hear This Bee Gees..........................

@bikerbabe  There are 2 videos of You Win Again on YT.  1 is a music video, MTV I guess, but my  favorite is the 3 of them on stage Barrry in a black short sleeveshirt and jeans. I think he was about 41 or 42 then.

Holy moley, he is perfection.  Yeah, shallow I know, but Jiminy Cricket, even at my old age of 72, I think my one and only fossilized ovary sparked.  LOL

look up the song titled "you win again"  never heard it on the radio but love it!

I just discovered that song this year and I love it, too!!!!  I read that it was a big hit overseas, but didn't get much airplay in the U.S. due to a post-disco backlash against the BeeGees.  (Edit:  or what @bikerbabe  said better than I did!  😄).

The video they did is great! Very 1980's.   Barry looks hot with his hair pulled back and Robin's "ohh girl" backup singing is the best.

Oh, yeah. I know that video very well. *faint* 🥵 Its a bit famous in The Bee Gees fan hemisphere. 🤣 It’s from Dutch TV. 1987. Barry with no guitar for a change. His bad back must have been feeling good that day because that’s the most hip action I’ve ever seen in him. I know they were ecstatic that this song was such a big hit. It meant a lot to them. It was number 1 for quite a few weeks in England and went to number 1 in many countries.

Robin looked good during these years. Healthy.

There are some interesting stories on the origins of the song. Barry often wakes up in the middle of the night with snippets of songs playing in his head and he would grab the tape recorder at his bedside, sing into it and then go back to sleep. He could play back the next morning and decide if there is anything there or not.

This time he woke up and his tape recorder was dead. He ran through the house trying to find batteries, mumbling the song to himself so that he wouldn’t forget it in his half asleep state.

The drum “stomps” that are the signature of the song, were created by Mo in his garage. Their record company wanted it removed from the song and they refused. It’s a good thing because the song was immediately recognizable to everyone whenever it played on radio. The stomps were such a big hit that a number of other major artists requested the tracks to use in their songs.

They did a live performance at Wembley as part of a Nelson Mandela concert and Phil Collins played drums.
