HUMPHREY BOGART AND MARY ASTOR REUNITED TUESDAY 11:45 A.M. EASTERN TCM

11:45 a.m. Eastern--   "Across the Pacific"  Bogart, Mary Astor, Sydney Greenstreet

Good lunchtime fare.  It's all about foiling spies and preventing sabotage in the Panama Canal, circa World War II, but most viewers just relish the chance to see Bogey's shipboard romance with Mary Astor, and a reprise of the cagey verbal fencing he had with the redoubtable Sydney Greenstreet in "The Maltese Falcon".

This was an immediate follow-up to "Falcon", and the three principals, Bogart, Astor and Greenstreet are in fine form. Love them together.  Even the director-- masterful John Huston-- is the same, although Vincent Sherman was brought in at the end.

Despite the subject matter though, there's a light, almost comic thread running through it.  It's amusing to see Astor transform from the tear-drenched enigmatic vamp she played in "Falcon", to the game-for-anything, fresh-air Canadian adventuress she is in this.  Here's Bogey and Astor squaring off:
