Scott McGillivray's new show.

What did you think?

Did they say what state that was in?  I just saw it said something about West Lake.

I find $500/night an unrealistic number, that's why I'm wondering where it's located.

I've looked at a lot of places on the east coast in places like Myrtle Beach and houses that go for $500+ a night are really high end beautiful places.

I think he also could have explained capital gains a bit better, he made it sound like they owed $400k in taxes.

Re: HGTV - Vacation House Rules

I made sure to watch and really enjoyed the show!   I think the house is located in California.

He sure put in a lot of reconstruction work!  I look forward to this series.

The nightly prices are not unreasonable for high season, especially for a group of ten people.  Folks from Philly pay similar prices for a lake house rental in the Poconos or a house along the New Jersey shore.

Capital gains tax is one of those complicated topics that depends on income, and future decision to sell the property.  Only their accountant really knows all the details.

It's on the water and assuming it is a private beach/waterfront, that is probably what is driving the price, especially in the high season.

I just don't think leaving a basket with shampoo and sunscreen is going to keep people from trashing your house.

I just don't think that house is that great based on what I see on VRBO for waterfront rentals.

The lake is in Canada. I didn’t care for show. Nothing special. We really are liking the couple renovating the island resort on Sunday nights.

Okay so it's $500 Canadian.

Makes way more sense.

$350 a night.

I DVR'ed it and still need to watch it.  A lot of these shows are taped in Canada like Love It or List It and then they went to NC for a while.  Not sure now since I haven't watched it in a while.

Re: HGTV - Vacation House Rules

I enjoyed it as I love most home reno shows and also Scott McGillivray.  I was confused....was this on a lake but the ocean was close by (a couple of miles or so)?  I also agree that a box of lotion and sunscreen isn't going to deter some people from not treating the house with respect.  I wish they could have added another shower inside.  Two showers (with one of those outside) would definitely keep me from renting it.

Sorry the promos with Scott's annoying voice were enough for me.  Could never listen to him.  Show didn't look special to me either.
