Re: Guy Lombardo - New Years Eve

I watched Guy Lombardo on New Years Eve with my parents also. He was a

staple back then. Times sure have changed. Nothing is classy anymore. I don't

even bother to watch the New Years programs anymore. Just junk.

I used t laugh at Guy Lombardo also.  I used to scratch my head at the requisite news story every year about the New Year dinner and "celebration" that many cities had at 6 o'clock for the old folks.  Now I am the old folks.....but I am still up at midnight and still

don't like Guy Lombardo!  Some years I stay in at home, and sometimes (rarely) I go out,

but no Guy Lombardo allowed.  I still celebrate with British Invasion, Disco, New Wave

and Singer/Songwriters.  This year it's Dr. Pol, Buffalo chicken egg rolls, and Coke Zero.

Except that I am doing all of this at midnight, I could have been one of those senior citizen news stories this year!Smiley Very Happy

I saw GL live (not on NYE) at the Masonic cathedral in New Castle,Penna. I was a kid and didn't appreciate it.

I vaguely recall this, but don't remember much about it.  I used to adore watching ****** Clark on New Year's Eve!  He was the absolute best and there will never be anybody to compare!!!!

Re: Guy Lombardo - New Years Eve

It’s funny you mentioned Guy Lombardo. I was just thinking of him the other day and how everyone was so dressed up ! We never made fun of him , but knew it was a tradition on New Years Eve! I find we live in such a sloppy dress society -that includes my grandchildren -but that’s how it is!! Do miss those days 🎊

Anyone remember seeing his show when you were a child?  I watched with my parents.  The men wore tuxedos, the women were in cocktail dresses with party hats and the dance floor was so crowded.  A big difference from today's celebrations on TV.

.

OMG! Are you kidding?  Thank you for posting this.  I was so young, Now86.  I thought it was beautiful music but so fuddy duddy then.  I would have loved to hear it now.

I could not watch to long last night.  The yelling, the music and words.  I have close caption, because I can understand some when they are speaking.  But the young today, have their own language, some not so good.  All in the eye of the beholder.

Happy New year.

Fun memories, @twinsister .   For some reason, did not watch Guy and his "Royal Canadians".   I wonder if Mitch Miller ever did any New Year's shows.  I have the faintest memory of snatches of Mitch Miller....

Yes, my Grandmother also watched him , and I didn't care for him until when I hear it now.
