@MaryLamb wrote:Black Mirror on Netflix is like a Twilight Zone for the 21st century. The writing is brilliant, and the show has won many awards. I put off watching it for years, because I’m not much of a sci-fi fan. However, after watching one episode, I had to watch the entire 5 seasons in two days, it’s ia very smart show, but I wouldn’t call it high brow. It would be at the top of my list for recommendations. I also would look at:
The Crown
Ozark
Dead to Me
The OA
Another Life
Mind Hunter
The Haunting of Hill House
Stranger Things
OH, I forgot about Dead to Me-LOVE!

Perception! Only three seasons but it’ll keep your mind entertained. Why do the studios take off the great shows and
put on nonsense.

I don't think anyone yet mentioned Orphan Black. A superior show with one actress portraying, and doing it incredibly well, over half a dozen individual characters.
Here she is (Tatiana Maslany) in all the iterations. They don't just look different, she makes each one a true individual.
I'm also loving Inspector Lewis.
Both are on DVD and perfect for serial watching. (I know "binge" is the popular term but, for me, it takes something away from the good series that aren't just "eye candy" but are instead real, intelligent stories. Not that there's anything wrong with "candy." I think all the series mentioned in this thread are pretty fabulous.)

Babylon 5
Farscape
Firefly
and of course the old Twilight Zone and
Outer Limits.
