LAURA WRIGHT LOOKS BACK ON GH'S POIGNANT JACKLYN ZEMAN TRIBUTE

Today, May 9, marks one year of the passing of General Hospital icon Jacklyn Zeman, beloved for playing Barbara Jean “Bobbie” Spencer for over 45 years. Her onscreen daughter’s portrayer, Laura Wright, was asked recently about the tribute GH paid to both the actress and the character during Ladies of GH event.

We can always honor Jackie, right? Not just a moment…but when we did Bobbie’s death on New Year’s Eve, that was a rough week,” she confided to the audience in Long Island. “We shot all of the episodes within four days. Everything…I don’t know, nine episodes, which is good when you do those kinds of heavy scenes, then you’re not spreading it out for a couple weeks.

“As intense and difficult as it was, it was done in four days, but I think everyone felt it, took it home the whole week,” she shared. “We knew it was going to be heavy. And we were talking about this yesterday, the funeral for Bobbie…when you walked on set, it was about Jackie. Her photo was up, the cast that was there and any other time that you would be doing anything with a cast like that, Jackie would’ve been there. So she was in spirit.”

It was a hard grouping of scenes for everyone but then something magical happened when they finished shooting them. “When we all left work that day, there was a beautiful rainbow outside,” Wright smiled. “So it was a really special day.”

Zeman was a powerful force for so many years for the entire cast and the GH tribute was a way for them to process their grief — grief the audience has felt as well. Dealing with those kinds of emotions would of course take a lot out of the actors and Wright explained how they dealt with it.

“I just think we all went home and took some hot baths and had a glass of wine and went to bed,” she continued. “I mean, depending on [whether you were] coming back the next day, the decompressing or really letting it go, it is not so easy and you almost don’t want it to be completely gone because then you’d have to start from scratch [to get into those intense emotions of grief]…the next morning. So you kind of just live in that space halfway a little bit until it’s over.”

If memory serves me correctly, Sam came to Port Charles and was operating on the wrong side of the law as well.

Applause for Laura (GF): I noticed today that the Mayor had her hair cut and styled. She looked lovely.

Oh goody gumdrops, like we didn't know Sonny's plus one will be Natalia at the wedding. Talk about a control freak...yep, that's Mother Natalia.

BTW, she manages the finances for her daughter. She doesn't seem to have any other revenue stream (at least none of which we are aware). She's trotting around PC, staying and eating at the Metro Court, etc. That in and of itself would cost more than a few buckeroos. Just sayin'......

Hmmmm, well Ava, guess the bride's side of the family hasn't forgotten that you shot Connie Falconeri a/k/a Kate Howard in cold blood. Golly, can't understand why you would not be welcome at the nuptials and reception?

Heather: Agree with all who do not want to see Heather obtain a "get out of jail free" card due to cobalt poisoning. Can we see Alexis' first case when her disbarment is overturned and she is once again a lawyer to be to plead Heather's case. Of course we can.

Deadline is reporting that Giovanni Mazza will be joining General Hospital as a cousin of Brook Lynn’s. He is set to make his debut when his character, Giovanni Cerullo, attends the magical wedding of his cousin to Harrison Chase. The actor is also a musician — and will be playing the violin at the wedding during the week of May 13.

Mazza hails from Chicago and started acting when he was 8 years old — when he appeared in a two-year ad campaign for Walmart as well as films that were shot in his hometown. He appeared on Bella and the Bulldogs on Nickelodeon with a speaking role when he was 10. On the musical front, he has performed the violin on several TV shows and at NBA games. According to his IMDB page, he also enjoys playing guitar and singing.

The young star also enjoys sports, including soccer and football — which he plays on his high school teams in Chicago. He also holds dual citizenship with the U.S. and Italy.

The wedding of Chase and Brook Lynn is shaping up to be quite the affair — the Event of the Season. Will Giovanni catch the eye of a local gal his age when he’s in Port Charles? While Josslyn was very much in love with Dex (Evan Hofer), the two broke up recently. Her best friend, Trina, who lost the love of her life several months ago, may need a new friend to help her through her grief.

GH, like most soaps over the years, is known to increase their younger characters’ presence during the summer months when teens are off from school. Summer is just around the corner. Having a Quartermaine-adjacent younger character who can add to the dating scene seems like a smart choice. Will it happen and with which available player remains to be seen? Stay tuned.
