With this show it pretty much begins at their day one and the season ends around day 10 where the WD started at week 4. I still wonder how Rick layed in a coma for all them weeks without eating or an IV and still mangaged to not die.
Looking forward to next season to see how they make it out to the boat and what that huge red stain in the water is.
@nekodaisy I thought it was kind of annoying how Fear the Walking Dead did start at day one but then they skipped to where most people had now become zombies all of a sudden. How about showing us what happened in-between when it started and when it really started to break out?
@HSB1204They didn't actually start at "day one" when the first person turned into a zombie. The show started when lots of people had already turned, but those new zombies were still scattered and not the majority.
@nekodaisyAs to Rick's being in a lengthy coma, one of the fan sites says it was never explained when the hospital he was in was attacked. So even if he was in a coma for a long time, it may be that he was only unattended for a very short time, maybe a couple of days.

Agreed! One minute we saw like one zombie and the next minute they were back behind the fence being guarded by the military while the rest were all zombies. Well, actually it appears the military killed regular civiliians too, not just the zombies- like when they killed the person in the house that was flashing lights. That made no sense and they never explained why the military was killing everyone- zombies and non-infected alike. That would have been a more interesting thing to explore. But yes, they skipped a big part of the story that would have made it a bit more interesting. Again though, mos of the characters are just not very likeable or relateable so far.

@GingerPeach Right, I guess that's true. We never did see how the first person was infected but it must have still been pretty close to when it started spreading since we didn't see very many zombies at the beginning.

Yes, I don't know if they're saving some of those explanations for season two or what. I also thought it was weird when the military was killing people who hadn't turned. It's not like they couldn't tell the difference between the two. And how did they get all of the zombies into the stadium or whatever that big building was where they were all locked up? Unless the characters go through a complete personality change for season two I don't think I'll watch. They were acting way too ignorant when it was so easy to see what was going on.

Thanks for the fan site information on Rick.

I enjoyed FTWD, but it took me about 3 episodes to warm up to most of the characters. It really is interesting to read some of the blogs and Q&As out there from the producers and actors of the show, because it does shed some light on the whys of how the show is progressing. I'm really looking forward to Season 2!

@GingerPeach wrote:I really like this show but have had my share of annoyance with it, too. I think @icezeus had a great point in that the male lead character (I don't even know him by name yet and have watched all the shows!) was made to appear too soft, for too long.
I'm going to watch when it returns next season. I think they will have more problems than they expect while trying to reach that boat. No doubt there are a few walkers on the boat also. And, since they didn't show him die, the high school kid with the knife will probably show up at some point. I want to find out what happens with him. And he's also the only one who understood what was happening almost right away. Hope he becomes much more important next season. In the meantime I am eagerly looking forward to tonight's extended premiere of The Walking Dead.
But isn't that more like real life? Consider that these people have not spent the last 5 years watching The Walking Dead and don't know that this is a zombie apocolypse. They know people are getting sick and coming back. They don't know if there's a cure, they don't know how far this has spread, and they don't know what you know about everything that's happened on The Walking Dead. They know that people they are friends with are sick and out fo control and that things are very, very bad.
At what point would you decide to start shooting your neighbors? At what point would you start torturing and killing people who hadn't turned? Because that's what you're frustrated with when it comes to Travis? Gosh, why isn't that guy killing his old friends and tortuing people yet? Well, when would you, do you think? How much time has to pass before you decide it's reasonable to strap people to chairs and torture them or kill waitresses?
Icezeus says that the Ruben Blades character is what one needs to be in an apocolypose, but he was that BEFORE the apocolypse. He decided to become that in a war zone because he thought he needed to torture and disappear people to survive.
If everyone who survives the apocolypse has to become someone who tortures people and kills his neighbors without hesitation, are they really going to create a new world worth living in?
Ruben Blades character wass tortuning and killing humans. And yes, I want some people to hesitate before torturing and killing humans.

I liked it, probably because it began at the beginning, explaining how it all came about. I wonder when the second will begin.

@HappyDaze wrote:@GingerPeach you touched on something both my husband and I talked about- that we cannot remember the names of any of the characters and that says alot!! I don't think I've ever watched a whole season of something and had a hard time remember the names of the main characters! I just remember Daniel- the older guy who tortured the soldier- and Tobias, the young kid who I do like and hope he will be part of the next season. Like Tobias, Daniel seemed to know what was going on pretty quickly too.
The other thing is, the show is modern day and for sure, by now, everyone has heard of zombies and watched zombie movies so it isn't like zombies are someting no one has heard of. Sure, it was all just movies and fake before but if it walks like a walker and growls like a walker, well, then it is a walker, lol! For the majority of characters to be so naive about what is going on is just unrealistic.
I only remember the boyfriend's name, Travis.

As to how it began, a virus is what I heard. The military somehow knew when someone was sick and removed them to isolate them, and killed the people who had turned, some before, knowing they would turn when they died.
