FLASH ALERT: GENTLEMAN PREFER BLONDES, MARILYN MONROE SUNDAY 6:15 P.M. EASTERN TCM

Wowza --  were either Monroe or Russell ever photographed as lusciously as they were by director Howard Hawks in "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes"?

6:15 p.m. Eastern--  "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes"  Marilyn Monroe, Jane Russell, Charles Coburn, Elliott Reid

Super fun, joyous musical comedy, with deft screwball overtones.  Marilyn could not be a more perfect Lorelei Lee, diamond connoisseur and dizzy dame.  I love Jane Russell bringing the sardonic sanity to this-- she's also ravishing, and the two play off each other so well.  Add in Charles Coburn as "Beeky", and assorted other great players, and it's just a frolic.

So many scenes to relish, and the production values were sky high-- the whole film looks like a box of very expensive candy.  And Marilyn's "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" (love the way she intones "Cartier",  "Tiffany's" and "Harry Winston" in a musical swoon) tops it all.

A stylish, yet timeless romp!

@Oznell

Wowza is right...both of them are forces of nature!

Love the red, red lipstick and nail polish.

Amazing!

I've always thought the 'hidden gem' in this film was "Anyone Here for Love?" performed by Jane Russell.  Love the staging and choreography.

Saw this gem for the first time a few months back.  They were both so beautiful and talented women.  What a treat!

You have to love (and miss) the production numbers, the lavish costumes and the joy inherent in films back in the day. Where did it all go...? Sigh... Another of my favorites was How to Marry a Millionaire with Monroe, Bacall, and Betty Grable... Great fun, gorgeous clothes, and, as I remember, a wonderful apartment...

They did have a great apartment, @stevieb ,  even though they had to keep selling furniture (if I'm remembering right) in order to keep up their "chic" lifestyle!  Another good film-- frothy and funny...

I had watched this On Demand a week or so ago.  I had never seen it all the way thru before, just bits n pieces.  I thoroughly enjoyed it.  Gosh, those two actresses were just at the height of their beauty and glory and did play well off one another.

I enjoyed the outfits and costumes - everything about it.

Great great movie.  A definite classic.

Great movie. Cameron Mitchell was so good in this. Loved the end where they're all sitting at the soda fountain. And Marilyn not being able to see anything without her glasses but too vain to wear them, and Betty Grable and the measles thing, and Lauren Bacall,

"I'll have that and that, and that and that and that" pointing to jewelry pieces. The casting was genius.
