It all could have gone horribly wrong and often does. Thank goodness KKB lives in California, a state that doesn't require lawyers to make decisions about how doctors can treat their pregnant patients.
Wishing Kourtney and Travis and family much luck in this next phase of their lives.

They're so lucky to have the means to have such good medical care. I really don't think the average family could afford such treatment as they got. For those families the story would be much different.

Don't understand those that follow what they
do.
If you don't care, you don't need to contribute. You knew the topic when you saw it. I don't get people making ridiculous statements.

It's not about MONEY. It's about access. Fetal surgeries are not experimental. There been doing them for many years now and while at one time insurers balked at covering them, they cover them now. They do require special handling and approvals but insurers cover them. Access is the issue. Fetal surgeries are incredibly complicated and the surgeons who specialize in them and the specialized equipment required to do them, are only in large large medical centers in big cities.

Access takes money.

I got interested in the types of syndromes that result in the need for this precarious intervention. Just one is the repair of dreaded spina bifida in the infant. How fantastic that options for early repair exist for this condition.
There are apparently two major types of surgery, one that involves at least partial removal of the infant, and is of course more dangerous. The less invasive one leaves the infant in place, and can be performed through the use of fiber optic telescopes and other techniques. It is considered safer for mother and baby, and reduces the prospect of pre-term labor.
Fantastic progress in medicine is cumulative over time, and here's hoping that this medical advance becomes more and more prevalent for all in need. Practitioners of the past would be astonished at what has been achieved.

@Oznell Wow, thank you for your detailed and understandable explanations of fetal surgery- I didn't realize what it actually meant or how it occured and its incredible that doctors can do that with all of their incredible skills and technology. I'm going to look up youtube videos to see some demonstrations of it. It sounds like Kourtney Kardashian's baby is going to be ok and its good that they were able to catch this health issue right now to help the baby.

My granddaughter's party was great! We had a very large clear bubble with colored balloons swirling around in it. The kids and adults including the birthday girl loved it. She will be 13 months in a few days . The Early Intervention Therapists are now working with her on balance and flattening her feet out to walk. She is a ballerina and always stands on her toes! Lol! They have really been wonderful helping her to reach her milestones. Thank you for all the well wishes.

I know someone who (while pregnant) had sonograms.
The person reading the sonogram didn't recognize the problem with the baby's heart. It could have been fixed while she was pregnant.
The beautiful baby boy lived for 7 days. She held that baby in the hospital for 7 days as he was dying. Nothing could be done.
She later went on to have another baby boy. He's very healthy.
His family is so grateful for him. He's the most wonderful, happy guy you'd ever meet.
We are so lucky he's part of our family. We thank God for him every day.
We have one of the highest death rates of babies being born in the world. There are various reasons for this.
It's not something I'm sure; most doctors are proud of.
