Re: Exercise Guru Richard Simmons Has Died

Many years ago I exercised  to the Richard Simmons exercise tapes. It became my daily routine and I enjoyed  the challenge of the workouts and the healthy results.  While that was a long time ago, those tapes started me on healthy activities and  for that I thank Richard Simmons.  I am sorry to hear of his passing , I am sure he helped a lot of people become healthier and have fun doing it.  May he rest in peace.

This is truly such sad news! I love Richard Simmons- I like to do his aerobic VHS tapes and I love cooking his healthy breakfasts and soups from his Deal A Meal Cookbook.  Richard's joy and playfulness always put me in a great mood- I really enjoy his Disco Sweat exercise tape.  He seemed like a very kind person and went above and beyond to help people through his workouts and lessons.   He was an 80's exercise icon. RIP Richard, such a delightful and fun guy.

I met him when he was the keynote speaker at one of my professional conferences about 2007. He was a very nice, sensitive, gentle man.

Re: Exercise Guru Richard Simmons Has Died

This is really sad news. Richard was such an inspiring character, spreading his kindness, energy and no judgment approach.

It was hard to comprehend his, full of life personality, suddenly choosing seclusion for so many years. That was sad, too.

But, maybe his performance personality was far from the real Richard. We'll never know.

He clearly was fighting issues he did not wish to share. I hope, others who knew him well will avoid sharing them, too.

RIP, Richard.

Oh I haven't thought of "Deal A Meal" for a long time - I had the little wallet with the different cards of food categories that you moved over to the other side to keep track of what you ate. I bet I still have that somewhere!

I hope he had a happy and peaceful life after he left the hectic "celebrity" lifestyle. He seemed like such a nice person, and truly showed what "inclusion" means.

@Happy2BHere  I have the Deal A Meal cookbook, wallet and the cards too- I got them on Ebay a few years ago.  I haven't used the cards, but I do like to use his cookbook for quick and easy healthy soups or breakfasts.  I like to make the Deal A Meal minestrone or clam chowder for some lunches and the bran muffins for breakfast. Delicious and nutritious! Smiley Happy

He really seemed to be such a kind and inclusive guy- he cast people of all sizes and shapes in his workout tapes and made people feel empowered and less intimidated to start exercise programs.  I think that he genuinely cared about the people that he taught through his fitness tapes and in person.  He's going to open an aerobics studio in Heaven, I bet he will!
