Re: Exercise Guru Richard Simmons Has Died

[ Edited ]

Wikipedia just listed his death as suicide.

That is so sad.

Edited to add-

This was revised by Wikipedia. They have now removed the cause of suicide and now list it as natural causes saying their information will be "heavily edited," as news keeps coming in.

Richard was a hoot. So much energy and true from the heart caring. RIP

Does anyone remember his dolls that he sold on the Q? They were called "Richard Simmons Collection of the Masters Dolls. They were impeccable.

Re: Exercise Guru Richard Simmons Has Died

Wikipedia indicates he died from natural causes as do most of the news articles.
Richard Simmons helped a lot of people and was a shining light to many overweight and obese individuals who had lost hope. He was a beacon in a time when there were no obesity drugs and gastric bypass surgery was very costly and not always covered by insurance.

He had some health problems in his later life and wanted privacy.  Let's wish he has found the peace he deserved.

Re: Exercise Guru Richard Simmons Has Died

Back in the 1980s, I was home with my babies and Richard's tapes like 'Sweatin' With The Oldies (along with Jane Fonda and The Firm) kept me looking Goood!  I might have bought his Deal A Meal diet, as well.  Too long ago to remember.  I hope he went in peace.  I had the feeling that he was in distress and stayed in hiding for that reason.  R.I.P., Richard Simmons.

Re: Exercise Guru Richard Simmons Has Died

In 1983, I joined the Richard Simmons' Anatomy Asylum in Miami.
Loved going to exercise wearing my leotard, leggings, and leg warmers. Great music, enthusiastic instructors, childcare!

One day Richard came and ran the class!! Took pictures with all of us. I have picture somewhere.

RIP Richard.

Re: Exercise Guru Richard Simmons Has Died

I had just seen this on the news. I recall his joyous and upbeat personality when his show was so popular many years ago. I think he was a treasure and he did so much to encourage and help others with his exercise shows. I am sad he never got to know the many fans he had. RIP

Re: Exercise Guru Richard Simmons Has Died

Wow I feel like I  grew up with him.  He was always so upbeat and happy, very motivating and then he pretty much disappeared and the recently resurfaced.  I thought I  read he was having health issues that's why he wasn't in the public eye for such a long time.

RIP

Re: Exercise Guru Richard Simmons Has Died

I exercised with Richard when I was pregnant.  He had a segment for pregnant women and  I tell you best thing I did.  I had an easy delivery and kept my weight within the limits of what my doctor wanted and I had gestational diabetes while pregnant.

Never developed diabetes after and always kept my weight down.

Rest in peace my friend.
