I'm very sorry to hear that, @JeanLouiseFinch .  Ironically,  I had heard that recently he was becoming a bit more visible, giving interviews, etc.,  after a long period of seclusion at home. 

He had such a peppy personality, and a history of wanting to help people.  Seemed like a very kind person.  RIP.

@JeanLouiseFinch im absolutely gobsmacked. Ive been reading his very entertaining, heartwarming and somtimes very gossipy stories on Twitter that he started doing this year...was just reading one yesterdsy. 

Came back to my post to update:

His birthday was YESTERDAY, July 12th. He tweeted this morning too. Time of death would have been within minutes of tweeting unless that was a scheduled tweet. I need answers

He was happy, and im glad he got to tell the world that after all the weird rumors over the last few years.

He was happy...and got to know he was still loved by others who responded to him. 

Great life. Gonna go shed a tear for him, well for us who will feel the loss . Thank you for letting me know.

I read something about him recently, and it occurred to me that it had been a long time since I'd seen or heard anything about him.  I wonder if he'd been ill?

Oh my goodness!  That makes me very sad.  Richard did so much to get people moving and exercising.  He appealed to those out of shape and those reluctant to exercise.  I watched and danced with me to the oldies when I could get out and run or go to the gym.  I admired his spunk and dedication to his "calling."

I often wondered what occurred that seemed to have caused a personality change. He had seemed upbeat and full of life prior to his self imposed isolation.

I hope he is at peace.

Richard Simmons celebrated his 76th birthday just yesterday, July 12. In a rare interview, he told People Magazine ahead of his birthday that he was grateful to be here and was "alive for another day." "I'll spend my birthday doing what I do every day, which is to help people."
