Empire

I have missed the story.  I watch it, but am not understanding it.  Use to be one of my favorites.  Can someone explain short version, thank you.

I only watch it to hear Jussie Smollet sing.  Missed last night's.  Glad you reminded me, I will watch it ON DEMAND today.
