@Sooner wrote:I didn't like or watch either show even back in the day. I thought both were too full of racial stereotypes of both races. It made a big deal of that and played on it instead of seeing both families as just the people they were.
I thought it was offensive to both races. Sorry, but that's my take on it. People are just people. Like or don't like them for the person they are. Forget about the color stuff. It doesn't matter, it's just who you are!
@Sooner If you didn't watch the shows, how can you have an opinion? I

The Jeffersons was a great show.
Used to watch it on Sunday nights on CBS.
Hope they never try to remake.
Loved George, Weezy, Lionel, Bentley and friends.
I do remember the actor who first played their son Lionel was replaced by
a new actor.
Mother Jefferson was a big pain for Louise as much as I remember.
Great show that I miss.
I remember it well and enjoyed it, too!
@threecees, the bits with Mother Jefferson and Louise were the funniest to me. She was an even more manipulative MIL than Marie on Everyone Loves Raymond!
The entire cast was great, but she really was perfect in her role as Mother Jefferson. 😂

Thanks for all your replies. Love this show. I see it as before its time and a very human show with lots of laughter. I don't see it as black and white, just a really amazing program. I don't like the NOW kind of TV. Too much violence and no real message.

Bit of trivia, in reality Weezie was actually about 20 years older than George, they remained great friends long after the show ended.
Remember Isabel Sanford played the maid in Guess Who's Coming to Dinner and had a part as a madam in Lady Sings the Blues, both prior to her becoming Weezie on All in the Family. .

I love old shows and watch them all the time on the Logo channel. The Jeffersons, All in the Family, Laverne and Shirley (loved that show!), Sanford and Son and a few more. It is a great channel for all the old sitcoms.

@bonnielu I use to watch The Jeffersons all the time and sometimes check out the reruns. I thought the show just had it's life span and stopped. I never heard of any controversy.

They just don't make sitcoms as funny as the old ones!!
Mother Jefferson and Florence the maid were hilarious!!

@CANDLEQUEEN thanks hun. I often wondered what happened to the show, but never thought to google it until now.
One point of interest I did find was the fact that the gent that played George refused to abide by the script if there were racial slurs in it. The example given was he refused to use the word "white Honk@y" and the script would have to be changed. KUDOS to him and don't we wish everyone in the world would anti-racial?

One of the absolute best spin offs and then such a success on its own. Loved all the cast and never missed an episode growing up.

I also loved the show The Jeffersons and watch the reruns whenever they are on.
