We used to watch it. Tackled some issues in a tasteful manner. What got me was that I didn't see much difference with it and the Amos and Andy TV series that featured actors of black African ancestry. I loved that show and couldn't understand why some thought it was racist or whatever.

@bonnielu I don't think it ended because of some controversy. The fact that it was abruptly canceled WAS the controversy.

Does anyone know the details of this controversy The show was in the 70;s Most of the actors have passed away.
@bonnielu I recorded the entire series in the eighties, and have quite a few seasons on DVD, love the show.

Helmsley as George Jefferson is hilarious. I can still see the strut walk. Those shows filmed in front of a live studio audience are, to use an overused word, awesome.
WHEEZIE!
@Sweetbay magnolia It's Weezie not Wheezie, lol, and I named one of my cats Weezie. I went to high school with a girl named Eloise, and we called her Weezie.

I find the program very creative. I am enjoying the reruns. I don't find it offensive. There is always a happy ending and it appears the characters really do care for each other.

@StylishLady Some months ago, on You Tube, I watched Ms. Isabel Sanford being interviewed by someone. She was asked why the show had been cancelled. If you search "Isabel Sanford on The Jeffersons getting canceled," it will take you to her interview. It is sad as to how she found out that the show had been cancelled. On the other hand, I would have thought that someone in the cast knew something. Maybe they just don't want to say what really happened.

Loved it and still watch it. "Moving on UP" .....nothing like the good old shows of the past. Thank goodness for cable.
