This show is in rerun on cable. I record and watch. My very favorite show... bar none. I was reading and it was stated it had the record.... minus one show.. one more and it would have won the title. What was said it ended abruptly BECAUSE OF SOME CONTROVERSY.
Does anyone know the details of this controversy The show was in the 70;s Most of the actors have passed away.

I don't remember there ever being an official series finale episode, could that be it?

I remember it. Thought it was a good show, but George's yelling and cross manner were too much at times. What was the record it held?

The controversy was just that it was abruptly canceled and never had any kind of proper series finale. (I just googled this and that seems to be pretty much it.)

I remember the show and the song We’re Moving on Up. I wasn’t aware of an controversy.

Don't know. You've got me singing the theme song, though . . . "Movin' on up, to the East side . . ."
Helmsley as George Jefferson is hilarious. I can still see the strut walk. Those shows filmed in front of a live studio audience are, to use an overused word, awesome.
WHEEZIE!

Longest sitcom on air minus one show. Not sure what got the "award." The end was a surprise to everyone including the cast. It was some controversy but never told or revealed. Just curious if anyone knows.

All I recall reading was that the cast was not formally told that the show had been cancelled and that was upsetting to them. The actor who played George was a quiet and private man who did not particularly like the character he played and he finally got the writers to eliminate a derogatory term they often had him call a neighbor early in the series.

Wow I just turned TV on about 30 minutes ago and there were the Jeffersons. I really enjoy it. I never knew it was abruptly pulled.

Yup I remember. He called his wife Weezy. I think it was a spin off of The Archie Bunker show. They were neighbors.
