Re: Documentary: Janet Jackson on Lifetime

Is anyone watching?  I forgot about it and missed the first episode.  They are going to air it again though on Lifetime and A&E.

Lots of photos that were never seen during one of her marriages.

I had one of those awful nights last night.  Could not sleep....😩

But I did run across the late repeat of this show.  I thought it was interesting and will be watching the second part tonight.

I always liked Janet on Good Times.  She was just cute as a button!

Re: Documentary: Janet Jackson on Lifetime

I watched last night.  Incredible that 9 kids and the 2 parents lived in that tiny 2 bedroom home in Gary, IN.  Yet they all grew up and managed to better themselves thru the world of entertainment.  An incredible story.

JJ did not have that type of speaking voice as a younger person.  Maybe she worked with a voice coach and she learned to soften her voice to save her throat.  I think her first albums (which I don't own) and the songs shown were giving me goosebumps.  Oh I miss the days went people went to concerts and danced and laughed and hugged and were freely able to enjoy themselves.  I sure did enjoy watching it.  I can see why she became a superstar like her brother.

I agree with her in that she was found guilty by association.  The charges against her brother were extremely serious and scandalous and tarnished the family name.  As far as the Super Bowl thing, how many people wear star pasties over their bits?  I think that entire thing was planned but backfired in that people were embarrassed and outraged by it.

But I enjoyed the first 2 hour part and look forward to the second.

Seems she grew up way too fast and not by her choice. Being the youngest kid in the bunch plus their way of life must have contributed to the way she made her decisions later on in her life, not so much when she was a very young girl though. That must have been awful when she and her family moved to California, especially during that time. Unfortunately there is still that 'there-goes-the-neighborhood' mentality today....sad but very true.

Re: Documentary: Janet Jackson on Lifetime

I did watch the repeat of it late last night.  It was interesting.  Her first marriage seemed so sad. She was so young. She really didn't know what she was getting into.  I had problems hearing her sometimes.  for me the music drowned her out.  Maybe just me she has always had a very soft voice.  What did everyone think of the baby question.  She never said she didn't have a baby and they didn't talk to her ex about that rumor or did I miss something.  I know the picture they showed of her neice looks just like Janet, however her sister Rebie (not sure of the spelling) looks a lot like Janet.

I watched Fame all the time and I don't remember her being on it.  I know she said she never wanted to be on the show but her dad wanted her to take the part.

I got the impression that Janet does not seem happy.  I wonder if she talks about her son in the second part tonight.

She claims this documentary is being told by her, about her "love it or leave it."  I just read a blurb leading up to the airing that she blames all the troubles Michael had on the downfall of her career.  That may be true in part, but I think it's mostly because her music wasn't that great.  Good thing she can do some acting too to get a paycheck.

This documentary will air on January 22nd on Lifetime Network.  I plan to watch (if I don't forget).Woman Tongue

Most boring documentary ever ... if you even consider it a documentary. I'm not sure what the purpose of the show is because it certainly doesn't give any insight into her personal or professional lives. To me, it's more of an autobiographical reality tv show ... complete with fake crying ... than a fact-based explanation of events. They couldn't even give a yes or no answer to whether or not she had a child with her first husband. Her and her sister talked about it for several minutes, but neither said yes or no.

And, was it my imagination, or was at least 70 percent of Episode 1 about the Jackson 5 and not Janet?

She has accomplished so much in her life and I think a real documentary could be facinating ... but this isn't it.

Re: Documentary: Janet Jackson on Lifetime

I was never a fan of the Jacksons at all. Never of Michael Jackson's... Never of his sister Janet.   Thus, I have no interest in her life story. I always found Michael Jackson to be disturbing and crazy.... a turn off.  Always felt sorry for his children to be brought up by such a kook.

I have to agree with you about the crying part, never saw a tear.  The parts about her first marriage were interesting.  I really have no interest in the super bowl show with Justin Timberlake. And where is La Toya did she mention her at all?  Anyway I will check out the second part and hope it will be more imformative.

Re: Documentary: Janet Jackson on Lifetime

Regarding the question of whether or not a baby existed from Janet's first

marriage, what puzzled me was when she said she would not keep a child

from his father but she stated several times about James and the drugs.

So not sure but I take it that if a child existed she would not let the baby

spend time or live with a drug addict father.

Good point @threecees .  She has a baby now with a guy who is Arabic. They were married and she moved over there for a while.  Divorced now and I Wonder how often she lets this man see their child?
