@SilleeMee wrote:Seems she grew up way too fast and not by her choice. Being the youngest kid in the bunch plus their way of life must have contributed to the way she made her decisions later on in her life, not so much when she was a very young girl though. That must have been awful when she and her family moved to California, especially during that time. Unfortunately there is still that 'there-goes-the-neighborhood' mentality today....sad but very true.
She did grow up too fast @SilleeMee . Joe Jackson is responsible for all of that.

I'm finding it sort of interesting. I think most of the Jacksons are on the odd side thanks to their upbringing. When the woman says that Joe had to give up being a father to manage the business I thought that was the saddest thing ever.
I'm curious how close she is to Rebbie who seems to have managed a normal life with a long marriage. In watching this I think that Janet has spent most of her life craving a real family but all she did was replace her Dad especially with Rene. All of her relationships, with the exception of the last one maybe, were connected to work.
I'm just glad she's managed to survive all of this stuff compared to others with amazing talent who eventuall fell apart. She seems to have some sort of core to her foundation.

Although I thought the docu was interesting, it wasn't remarkable and much of it I will have forgotten by next week. It just wasn't all that impressive as far as it could have been.

I had problems hearing her sometimes. for me the music drowned her out. Maybe just me she has always had a very soft voice. What did everyone think of the baby question. She never said she didn't have a baby and they didn't talk to her ex about that rumor or did I miss something. I know the picture they showed of her neice looks just like Janet, however her sister Rebie (not sure of the spelling) looks a lot like Janet.
I watched Fame all the time and I don't remember her being on it. I know she said she never wanted to be on the show but her dad wanted her to take the part.
I got the impression that Janet does not seem happy. I wonder if she talks about her son in the second part tonight.
I was glad the "secret baby " issue was addressed, but agree the response was kinda vague.

I think the secret baby stuff probably isn't true but if it is I'm not sure how or why it should be addressed. If she did ask her sister to raise her baby why would she say that publicly now?

I turned the documentary off -- boring.

I think she tried too hard to stick up for her father. I did learn a few things about the family and Janet.

Well, now that I've seen all four 1 hour episodes, I'm not impressed. I did find some of the old footage of her and her husband Elizondo and when she and Michael did the song Scream in his New York apartment. There was other footage too, that I thought was interesting.
A lot of this documentary was about Michael Jackson and/or her brothers. Much more than I suspected. She definitely lived in his shadow. I found it sad that she said Michael would call her names when she gained weight and she just chalked it up to being "brothers who pick on their little sisters." She did mention that it bothered her.
I also found that when she became more "sexualized" to move records, her husband Elizondo had a lot to do with that.
She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame because of Randy Jackson. All in all, this docu series wasn't what it was painted to be in previews.

@game-on I do too. I also think she didn't get into the details of when she fired him as manager because it was more than she was willing to let us know. She is a very private person in real life, so if it were not for some of the footage, we saw we'd never know as much as we did.

I finished all four hours of the documentary and enjoyed all of it. I thought it was well done. She is soft spoken, much like her brother Michael was.
I enjoyed seeing the behind-the-scenes of rehearsals and had no idea she was so driven, but am not surprised since all the kids were brought up to be go-getters.
I think it is great she had a son at the age of 50 and that he seems to be her priority.
I didn't realize she had received so many awards as I wasn't following her career, only Michaels. But if I recall correctly, they said one of her albums sold more than Michael's Thriller album, and I always that Thriller was the one to beat. Good for her!
Her mother still looks lovely and I felt for the mother when she said, when asked, that she didn't want to talk about Michael because it brought back such pain having him die. As has been said so often, no mother should have to bury their child.
