@itsmetooThat one is absolutely, shockingly awesome!!!!! AND then some!!!

@Teddie wrote:One remake that was really well done was Johnny Cash singing “Hurt”. Even the original artists, Nine Inch Nails, said it was now Johnny’s song. His old voice was imperfect, yet it is what made the song what it was.
That was the first one I thought of when reading this thread.
And I want to say...he recorded ‘Hurt’ close to his passing
which makes it even more touching.

I agree that Disturbed does a good job of singing "Sound of Slience" but, in my opinion, nobody does it like Simon and Garfunkle!

Exactly right, @sidsmom. That’s why it was all the more touching for me as well.

Itsmetoo, Disturbed's version of "The Sounds of Silence" is brilliant and stunning!
When I saw Art Garfunkle in concert last fall, he added some of Disturbed's dimension to his rendition of the song.

I agree with qvcfreak's comments on "I Will Always Love You." Both Dolly Parton (who wrote the song) and Whitney Houston's versions are outstanding.

Grailseeker, I agree that Jimi Hendrix's "All Along the Watchtower" is HYPNOTIC. I used to listen to it over and over (even though that wasn't good for vinyl--it was supposed to rest in between!).

‘I’m Afraid of Americans’, David Bowie
If you’re a NIN fan....I recently discovered their live version
on YouTube. Trent Reznor worked with David Bowie w/ the
1997 original (and Trent was in the video) but NIN did a live cover
in 2009. Only place you can hear it is on YT...no studio version.
Almost want to say...NIN version is better than Bowie’s.
Enjoy.

First thing that comes to mind is Neil Sedaka doing "Laughter in the Rain" two ways; love them both depending on what kind of mood I'm in. Back when he was on American Idol, Adam Lambert remade songs to be "his own" and I really liked what he did. And I loved his version of "Believe" for the Cher tribute. As others have said, ususally nothing like the original artist.

That is the first song I thought of. While I like both versions too and think Whitney's version is beautiful, I do like Dolly's original version better and I don't like country music.
