The Decades channel is running a Dark Shadows marathon this weekend and next.  I remember running home from junior high school so I wouldn't miss an episode.  It was scary, but I was hooked.  I have been watching it on and off, and now it is corny, but I am enjoying it.

OMG I too loved that show.

I was around 7-8 yrs old and my friends and I always watched at their home for they had the the first color TV in the neighborhood.  We would sit on the floor in a half circle with each of us holding a pillow to cover our eyes when the scary part came.

Their grand parents lived with them they were from "The Old Country" (Europe) and they hated (mostly the grandmother) when the kids were in the house.  They use to swat us with their canes and say "Go home, get out".  My friends mother would just say "Don't pay attention to them"...You are always welcome here.

I remember watching this show at 4:00 each day, after school.    I bought the DVD set some time back but I have felt overwhelmed by the fact that it's 1200+ episodes so I haven't even started watching yet.

I wonder if this marathon will be able to air ALL the episodes.    I don't think we have this channel anyway, but I would hope that they will go through the entire series.  One thing that is frustrating is when a channel starts re-airing an old show and then they stop somewhere along the line and you never get to see the rest.

They had it on Netflix streaming for a long time, not sure if it's still on there

I do have that channel & noticed DS is on all day today but not watching.  No doubt they're airing it now as lead-up to Halloween.  A month or so ago, they aired the first episode & I tried to watch it but just couldn't get into it.  I was in HS when it started in the mid-sixties & remember how my BFF & I used to hurry home from school so we could watch it.  It was a lot of fun back then. :-)  :-)

We have the entire series on DVD.

It's actually better in the beginning, before Barnabus arrived.

I'd never seen the beginning episodes til we bought the whole series ~ was surprised to discover that the first episodes were the best. They were in B&W and more "gothic."

Re: Dark Shadows on Decades

I was watching it late last night. I too would run home from school to watch Dark Shadows. But now when watching, it kind of looks so generic if you know what I mean? lol. Still love Barnabas though! (I used to have a ring like his back in the day).

We have the DVD set too.  I was watching DS when I was in elementary school.  All the kids walked to & from school back then - we even went home for lunch and then walked back.  Kids who had a religion class could leave early on Wednesday afternoons and walk alone to their church unattended.  Ah, those were the day, but I digress.

Anyway, I had a girlfriend who lived very close to the school, just across the street from the ball field, so several of us would run to her house to watch DS on our way home.  School let out at 3:15 back then so we'd only get to see a few minutes, but it was better than nothing.  I was hooked on that show for a long time.  When the Johnny Depp movie came out a few years back, I refused to see it because it made fun of my old favorite.

Funny how there were/are actors who became popular or more recognizable later in their careers and you see them now on old DS episodes when they were young and just starting out.
