Re: Dame Maggie Smith, 89, RIP

A great actress.  I never saw a bad performance.  British actresses are in a class of their own, like a Glenda Jackson or Dame Judi Dench.

Whoopi Goldberg had been lobbying Maggie desperately to have her appear in Sister Act 3.

I don't know if Maggie had agreed, but it's sad that it now won't happen.

@They Call Me MR Wilkes  Oh, that's right. She played the Mother Superior. Deloris eventually won her over in the 1st movie. I would have loved to see her play the part again.

Aww no! So sad to see her gone but wonderful life she gave through her films and everything.

I loved her so much in everything she did. Was just perfect for every roll. I knew whenever I saw her it would be so wonderful to watch!

I always liked seeing her, especially in the Harry Potter series. I never saw The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, but now I want to. I would have loved to watch Downton Abbey, but for me it is just another show I have to DVR to watch. Maybe someday.

One of my favorite Dame Maggie characters is Gunilla in The First Wives Club - she's so funny in that.

She was the best. Will miss her. Loved her in Downton Abbey. It was a great series(love those English ones) and she made it even better.

I had not heard. The first movie I remember seeing her in was called Murder By Death. I really enjoyed watching her on screen in different things. She was great in Downton Abbey. "What is a week end?"

Another legend gone.  She was one of a kind.  So gifted and just so wonderful to watch.

The Countess of Trentham, her Oscar nominated role in "Gosford Park", 2001, and a foreshadowing of Violet Crawley:

Maggie Smith was a true treasure to the acting world.  She could handle any material, whether a live stage performance, TV, or movie. I am glad that young audiences had an opportunity to watch this fine actress work during her stint as Dowager Lady Violet Grantham on Downton Abbey.

For those who want to see something very special, please find the documentary Tea With The Dames. It features Dame Smith, along with Dames Judi DenchEileen Atkins, and Joan Plowright gathered at Dench's country home.  As a viewer, you feel like a guest having tea with them, but quietly listening as the ladies talk quite candidly about their careers and lives for a couple of hours.

I thought she looked the most glamorous in the movie Murder by Death but I found this picture of her that showed her beauty.  Rest in peace.
