@PearleeI'm in -   great previews in the morning news.  One reviewer calls this series the best since his Civil War and then his baseball histories.  I loved both of those -  still listen to the Civil War music just about every month!

@Pearlee I can't imagine this show won't be repeated, so I'll keep track of which nights I miss -  might not ever want to sit through all 8.

Re: Country Music Ken Burns Doc Starts Tonight

It’s a Ken Burns production, so it should be good. I won’t watch because I just cannot listen to country music. Too much “Twang, twang....” and that awful singing through the nose.

[ Edited ]

I was just reading a review about this special.  Positive, to be sure.  Ken Burns does not disappoint, does he?

Definitely setting this up to record.  A lover of all sorts of music, I include country music among my favorite genres.  I'm also a great fan of the sound that emanated from the hills of our country's first settled mountainous areas.  Call it folk music or the ballads of our country's earliest settlers from Great Britain, I love the sound.  Even took a course on it in college.

Yes, I'm looking forward to this production.

And, yes, American country music had African American input, too, from the earliest times.  The church music shaped our national music.  One of the great country singers is Charley Pride.

A taste of what we might hear in the earlier part of this documentary:

Who captured the pain all of us felt on 9/11 better than Alan Jackson in his "Where Were You?"

As for the pain of living, nothing more searing than Hank Williams's "I'm So Lonesome, I Could Cry."

Re: Country Music Ken Burns Doc Starts Tonight

I posted about this series months ago and now it is here, boy time flies by.

I will probably watch the beginning as I liked some country music from the past.  However, I am not a fan and depending how the series goes, will see if I watch it all.  I love Ken Burns series and for true country music fans, this should be a good one for them.

Will give DH a heads up.  He LOVES that genre.  I could take it or leave it--mostly leave it.  No offense to those who like it.

I will give it a try even though I am not a big fan of country music.   If Ken Burns made it, it has to be good.
