Chris Rock is coming to Reno at one of the casinos this weekend.  Reno is not good with advertising.  I guess people found out the last couple days and the show has already sold out.  I like Chris Rock and I do not believe he meant any harm in his joke.  If you notice Will was laughing and having a good time.  I think Jada got mad.  His mom was interviewed today and she said she has never seen him snap like that.  I have noticed that Jada never looks happy.

I listened to another comedian talk about this and wonder about how out-of-character it seemed for Will. They do have an open marriage, which is no secret.

He thinks Will was OK with it until he saw her reaction. Then the fact that he might not be totally secure in his marriage came into play.

IMO I can kind of understand his running to the stage to "defend" his wife.. What I can't understand is why he had to say what he did when he sat down.

My opinion of him as an example to young kids changed then.

And DH still thinks the whole thing was staged!  Smiley Wink

@beach-mom Agreed.  That made it sooooooo much worse.

I'd be changing professions. People are wacko today.

@SharkE People can't laugh at themselves, so they don't want any laughter because it might come their way.  We are a humorless society now.  Bad sign.  Leno, Carson?  Joan Rivers????

@stevieb I agree with you and all the while we have become more accepting of violence and rudeness, and ready to excuse almost any behavior for what ever reason we can dream up if it suits our fancy.

We don't hold people accountable.  Somebody's always got a "reason" for what they did--however bad that reason might be, it usually flies.

@Sooner  Well, I'll tell you, the concept of accountability seems very fluid... Some folks seem exempt while others aren't... Some folks excuses are accepted but not so much for others... In some instances, once again, the apologists go out of their way to make up explanations for some people's bad behaviors while they're fully willing to assume the worst of others based on the most minute criteria and largely on assumptions...

Does anyone care that Chris Rock was the victim of violence?  Macho Will thought he should defend his woman by hitting Chris. Wrong is wrong is still wrong.

A victim of violence?  Does anyone care that Chris Rock should have known better than to mock ANY woman's hair?  He did a documentary about hair, and has daughters.  He knew what he was doing, and paid the price for his stupidity.

Yes, I agree that WS shouldn't have slapped him, but IMO  CR should have known better.   It was in very poor taste to do what he did.

Actually, I still suspect that these two staged that scene ... I was under the impression that they have been friends for years.   JMO, of course.

What a world we live in...a man assaults another man with cameras rolling, the ELITE audience does absolutely nothing but sit there, watch, and accept it, he curses, isn't reprimanded or ushered out for committing an assault, no one helps or even acknowledges the man who was assaulted, and the person who committed a crime gets a standing ovation minutes later.

This is the world we live in....and it's all over a silly joke told by a comedian.

@DREAMON

Sorry, but I don't think you can fault the "elite" audience.  It was a surprising action, and I bet most in the audience (in studio or at home) thought it might have been part of a comedy sketch.   The three hosts are also in comedy.

I think the whole audience was watching to see what happened next.   A fake fight?   Some stuntmen go onstage and pretend to be fighting?  Who knew?  At the moment it happened no one had enough information to do anything but watch what happened next.

Chris is appearing tonite in a sold out show in Boston, so far he has been silent, wondering if he will discuss it tonight with his audience.

Several years ago he did a special about African American women and how sensitive they are about their hair ? He was on Oprah , It was not a comedy routine , not to retread that confrontation , but i think he really had a lapse in judgement , not that i am putting him down. Women in general but especially black women hold their self esteem in their hair , and add hair loss on top of it , is devastating.

Yes I remember the documentary Chris Rock made about African American women and the cultural importance of hair.  It was critically aclaimed and received several awards.  I was reminded of this and thought his joke was an odd choice.  Like most viewers I thought the reaction by the Smiths was extreme.  I remember Elizabeth Taylor being the subject of many cruel jokes about her weight and marriages and she was always gracious and laughed along with everyone else.  Not much else can be said about this very unfortunate display of bad behavior by an actor that knows better.

Re: Chris Rock , did anyone remember

How about that apology to Chris? So cold, written in a post many are

saying that Will's agent probably wrote.

How about he makes a video for all to view?

How about a private phone call to Chris?

Three people exhibiting very bad behavior.   Especially the two reacting like third graders to a joke.  Does being mad because someone made a joke about you or your wife allow you to act like a jerk?  No.  It doesn't.  It shouldn't.

Will Smith also made a joke about Arsenio Hall's mother's baldness....but Arsenio didn't slap him.
