Love the movie the birds, watch it everytime it's on.

Don't read Tippi Hendren's bio, that bird attack scene was REAL

She rejected HItchcock's advances she wouldn't play ball with him

so he punished her by changing the next day's shooting.

When she came in to work. People all stared at her then looked away real fast, she knew something was wrong, finally the bird wrangler guy who was in charge of the pecking birds told her he was told to use real birds today and to apply some kind of gel on her to make the birds come at her.

The attack was real and went on for a few minutes. Afterwards, she had to have psychiatric help and couldn't report for work. Guess she was traumatized. The on the set Dr. went over Hitch's authority and wouldn't let her work for a few days.  Hitch's wife knew all this , but, everybody wanted to keep their jobs and wanted to work again, etc.

She was blackballed for awhile and didn't work when she got into her animal perserve eventually she came back to being an actress..

Good book !

This is how I remembered the whole deal coming down , so, if I've misquoted or something don't kill me LOL   I do remember the birds

attack scene was real and not computer generated or fake birds.

I remember reading that, too, @SharkE . Imagine the trauma of big black birds attacking you, and knowing it was done as a vendetta. Awful.

Re: CLASSIC EERIE SUSPENSE TCM THURSDAY 8:30 A.M. EASTERN

So true, @SharkE and @Teddie .  It's so appalling to think that Hitchcock allowed his bizarre fantasies and fixations to warp his relationships and how he treated some people. Exceptional talent does not necessarily correlate with good character, unfortunately.

Some directors were very susceptible to that, it seems (the old "absolute power" thing), but Hitch seemed to carry it to horrific extremes.  Interestingly, he treated actresses well who he apparently wasn't attracted to.  That was the case with Suzanne Pleshette, who relished the input she had with him about her character, etc.

He would have benefited from some SERIOUS psychiatric intervention.
