Season 3 Premiere Dates Announced by PBS

PBS is getting into the holiday spirit this year with a special Christmas episode of Call the Midwife set to air Sunday, December 29th at 9 PM. The episode will have to tide fans over until the third season premieres on Sunday, March 30th at 8 PM. That may sound like a long time to have to wait to see Chummy and the rest of the nurses and nuns at Nonnatus House, but the Christmas special sounds so stuffed with new stories that it could take fans a few months to digest them all.

The special finds London’s East End experiencing a mild winter in 1958, and the midwives in the midst of a season of change. Jenny and Alec are getting closer, Shelagh (formerly Sister Bernadette) is preparing for her wedding to Dr. Turner, and Chummy is busy planning the Cubs Christmas party. The happy mood will take a dark turn when a thousand-pound explosive is discovered forcing the district to be evacuated. The Nonnatus House will have to work together to keep the community calm and safe, but things become even more complicated when a Polio outbreak hits.

“CALL THE MIDWIFE has established itself as a favorite among PBS viewers, and we are thrilled to offer fans a new episode before the premiere of the third season this spring,” said Beth Hoppe, Chief Programming Executive and General Manager, General Audience Programming, PBS in a statement. “We are pleased to continue our partnership with Neal Street, and are excited to see what the holidays have in store for our friends at Nonnatus House.”

Speaking of the spring, season three is set to take the midwives into uncharted territory: 1959, just a year before the notorious decade of change, the sixties, kicks off. Are you ready to return to Nonnatus House?
