Went to see this one today.  It is not for entertainment per se but a remembrance of a time past when the Cold War was on and the USA and the Soviet Union were threatening one another.  Tom Hanks was excellent and for the information given, it was well done (we will never know everything that went between the two countries).  I remembe the incident when I was a child as well as the drop drills should 'the bomb' be dropped on us here in America.

Part of our history.

I haven't seen the actual movie, but I've seen Kid Theater. They told the kids the name of the movie, Bridge of Spies, but nothing else. Then they asked the kids to write a short "script." This one stars Tom Hanks too!

I saw this movie too and thought it was great.  When I went I didn't realize it was based on true events.  These are the type of movies I like to see.

While waiting for the movie to start they show previews of other movies and I wouldn't spend a penny to see any of them.  That's one of the reasons I don't go anymore.

Re: Bridge of Spies - movie

[ Edited ]

I've live here on the West Coast all my life.  Lots of defense was here when I was growing up.  The test flights were up north of us at Edwards Air Force base for both space and spy planes.  Many people were employeed in the industries and others supplied the industries with many things.

This movie and the Cold War was something we took very seriously.  Many older movie goers were in the audience because they remember their employment background and the history involved.  I remember when Francis Gary Powers was caught.  The adults were very concerned.  Some were outraged and were not sympathetic towards him and others were more worried about what info he actually gave up.  They believed we would be at war very soon.  Folks lived day by day.  We had drop drills.  Mom stored up canned food and parents watch the daily news and newspapers.

All part of my history.

I lived throughout WW11 the air raids, etc.  We had to wear dog tags to school in case we were bombed they could I'D our bodies.  Still. Have mine today.  Then. The Korean war.  The Vietnam war, thank goodness my son were just a bit under age.  The Desert storm war and the latest.  We will always have wars, it,s good for big business.  Too bad. The young lives that get sacrificed.

The worse for me was WW 11 because these young boys enlisted to save their country,  yet look at the mess today with people shooting their own right here.

Went & saw Bridge of Spies yesterday with DH and we both enjoyed it very much.  I had to drag DH to it since he's not a movie goer but he actually liked it and thought the the actor who played the Russian spy, Mark Rylance, did a really good job.  This is one movie worth your dime!

What unnerves me is that in WWII, the English broke the Enigma code and used it to play god.  They knew of the enemy formations and attacks on all and they picked and chose who would get the battles where the outcomes were more or less predicted.  Mr.Turing only built the machine, but the hob knobs were the ones that called the shots.  Grrrrrrrrr.  It all hits me sideways.
