This movie and Audrey Hepburn is making a comeback. Perhaps because they've used her in several commercials.

My 12 year old granddaughter is redecorating her bedroom. I told my daughter she reminds me of a horse at the gate waiting for the bell to ring to run a race of a life time.

She watches all of those tutorials on putting on makeup, etc. My daughter will let her play with it at home but she cannot wear it out of the house.

She has an 11 year old sister who isn't interested in makeup at all.

Anyway, she wants to use posters from old movies (black and white posters). One of them is the famous one of Ms Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's. It's beautiful (as she was).

My daughter very carefully watches what they can see on TV, read (they read constantly), couldn't see Harry Potter until they read each book, etc.

My granddaughter wants to see the movie. My daughter saw it a long time ago. I told her I don't remember anything 'questionable' in it. There's talk about her being 'a lady of the night' but nothing like is even in today's PG13 movies.

Do you ladies remember the movie?

Harry Potter seems like garbage to me. Breakfast at Tiffany's is a masterpiece in comparison, that a 12 year old could see. It deals with adult subject matter which needs explanation from her mom, etc. However, compared to the trash that adolescents watch today, this movie is thought provoking and of higher form and content. It is of the period.

What a fabulous idea for a 12 yr old's room. Hollywood glamour! Bet this is one bright, interesting kid.

I loved that film. Never thought about how Holly supported herself----went over my head. I doubt if your granddaughter would overthink. It's a different era; tame by today's standards. Mickey Rooney's character is certainly not PC and there's lots of alcohol "abuse".

"Gigi" is another film that might require explanation, but probably not. It's a beautiful musical. Happy ending: Gigi preserves her values and gets the ring.

Enough of reality; bring back glamour. (Sometimes you can just watch a really bad film and enjoy it for the costumes and sets, ie "Imitation of Life". Sandra Dee's bedroom was to die for)

I thought Imitation of Life was a far superior movie to Breakfast at Tiffany's. It was heartbreaking. Though I think Audrey Hepburn was a good person, I never loved her acting. Imitation of Life (1959 version) is a must see.

B at T is a classic! So glad to hear that you're encouraging younger generations to watch. Smiley Happy

Re: Justice4all's comment about Harry Potter. . .The books are full of Biblical and mythological allusions. I appreciate the symbolism and themes in this series, and I often encourage young people to read these books. Honestly, I think the HP movies are good, but I don't see how one could truly understand the complexity of the story without reading the books. IMO, Harry Potter isn't garbage, but I do believe that the Twilight vampire series is! I'm annoyed by the number of middle school teachers around here who promote Twilight with full size movie posters all over their classrooms. I prefer intelligent, strong female characters as opposed to what they have in Twilight. We get those positive female role models with B at T and HP, but not so much with some of the other popular Young Adult "chick" lit.

Frankly I think the person Audrey Hepburn portrays in this movie is a self-centered, materialistic and selfish brat. I saw nothing remotely to like about her. There's also one scene where she and George Peppard enter a store and decide to shoplift something 'for fun'. This is not a movie I would recommend a young and impressionable person to see. I agree, 'Imitation of Life' would be a much better choice.

Just realized the bleeping troll has been messing with this, and this is an old thread. My opinion stands, however.

Issie: I could NOT agree with you more. I don't care for movies like this and certainly no role model for ANY girl.

Thanks LMG. Agree, this character does not have her priorities straight in any way. I also really dislike the scene where she throws the cat out of the car into the rain.
