@Shelbelle - I read once that they had known each other since they were young, but went on to marry others. It's so great they got back together later in life.
So sad. The last time I saw him on TV was his occasional appearances on The Big Bang Theory. He still had that special sense of humor and timing. If you haven't seen him in that show try to find clips online.

He also played Dr. Melnitz on the Odd Couple. Great actor.

94 is a good run. To tell you the truth I'm not sure if I thought he was still alive before hearing this today.
It seems like a million yrs ago, and certainly another lifetime for me...when I'd watch his show with my dad. My dad got a kick out of The Bob Newhart show. He also loved Ed Asner and Ted Knight, and all the cast of Mary Tyler Moore show too.
RIP Bob Newhart...tks for the memories and laughs.

His arched eyebrow with deadpan delivery was always perfect.
He never failed to make me laugh. A treasure who will be sorely missed.

He was so funny, I have had hours of laughter because of his show. He was good in everything. Elf is one of my favorite movies. His tv shows were great and very well written. Don Rickles was his best friend and seeing sketches with those two were very funny. Of course Don Rickles was a riot. Wow not sure if there will be other comedians like Bob Newhart.

I remember back in elementary the fall advertisements started up for all the new programing and the moving of said shows around during the week.
One commercial came on with Mary Tyler Moore, Bob Newhart and Suzanne Pleshette. Bob was in the middle and had is arms around Mary both with their backs to Suzanne. Suzanne asked Bob "what are you doing" and his reply "I was told I would be up next to Mary this fall." Suzanne stated we will be up in the next time slot after Mary not holding Mary. Bob said OH and turned around and wrapped his arms around Suzanne who just beamed and Mary looked so sad. It was a great line up that year.
The ending of his second sitcom waking in bed to Suzanne again is one of my top five favorite endings of a series.

I just read that he passed. How sad. I really loved his humor and him. 94, wow, what a life he must have had. I'll miss, but remember him always.
Just watched an old Johnny Carson and Bob Newhart clip on t.v. the other night.
